Tint - driving from one state to another
Tint - driving from one state to another
People have been asking about tints and their TSXs here so I'm curious - with different laws in different states/ countries, has anyone been stopped for having illegal tints in a different state other than your home state?
For example, in TN, it's legal to tint all your windows at 35%, but in some states, it's illegal to even have the front windows tinted. So if you've driven to another state, have you ever been stopped for illegal anything just because of different laws? Or are out of town plates exempted?

I am fairly certain you would be bound by the laws of the state in which you are driving....much like obeying the posted speed limits. Just because you may be able, for example, to drive on an interstate in your home state at 70mph doesn't mean you can travel 70 on that interstate in every state it crosses.
I would think, though, that if you are just passing through a state and were to get pulled over that the officer would cut you some slack on it. It would probably all depend on why he/she pulled you over in the first place. If you were going 100mph in a 55mph construction zone at dusk without your headlights on, I don't think the officer would have much sympathy for illegal tint.

I have to disagree with ZAX. If you are just traveling through a state the police cannot pull you over for your tint, or at least write you some kind of a ticket if they do. Your car is only subject to laws within the state it is registered in. For example, if you were to drive your car from Nevada to California you do NOT need to make sure that your car is within the required emission standards of California, as long as they comply with those in Nevada you're fine. I am not sure exactly where you would find that law written but I am sure it has been interpreted from the free travel and trade between states. The basics of this law are written in the constitution or in the amendments.
i also disagree with ZAX, though it's just based on logic and not actual law. speed limit is something that from state to state vary, but each car is able to adjust to that limit. a tint law would be more similar to a front license plate requirement. if you're legal in the state in which you are registered, then you should be able to freely travel to states whose laws are different in those regards without being subject to the more strict laws. front plates and tints are not easily adjustable to local laws.
