Timing Belt Replacement for 2005 TSX?

How many miles should you replace your timing belt on a 2005 TSX? I have't been able to find this number anywhere.

There are no timing belt in TSX. These have timing chain which do not require routine replacement for 100K miles or more.

Typically, timing chains are lifetime parts -- they don't need replacement. However it might be worthwhile replacing the timing chain tensioner at maybe 100-120k miles. Its not too difficult and that tiny spring in the tensioner, if it wears out, can cause the timing chain to slip and f-up your valvetrain.

I'd estimate that anyone with good wrenching skills can tackle this themselves (armed with the appropriate Helm's manual!!), or anyone can take it to a garage or dealership and pay. I wouldn't think it'd be more than 2 hours labor, tops, but the book rate may differ, who knows. The tensioner itself is pretty inexpensive: (Item 9) http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...All&vinsrch=no

About $50-$70 through the dealership.

honda doesnt recommend changing the ATF filter but yet it does recommend just changing the ATF (automatic transmission fluid) at 110k miles...why would you not change the filter when your in that area? its such a simple thing to do just unplug a couple tubes and put new one in, not really brain surgery...so, just b/c honda doesnt recommend changing it doesnt mean you shouldnt do it..im with curls on this one

Not to mention there is more than one documented case of the tensioner failing. A tensioner failing is going to usually be a very expensive repair. Why chance it? Replace the little thing and get on with life. Its cheaper and easier than a timing belt but can cause the same damage as a timing belt if it breaks. No brainer.

Yeah replacing the tensioner is probably a good idea. I only mentioned that Honda doesn't recommend replacing the chain - though with a ton of miles it may be smart. I wasn't arguing that curls was wrong, merely pointing out some facts. Obviously the guy doesn't have any knowledge about these cars if he asked about the timing belt so I thought providing what Honda recommends might be worth something to him.
