Thinking of getting a TSX
Thinking of getting a TSX
I came across this wonderful forum while I was car shopping online.
I am thinking of getting a 2006 TSX AT with NAV. I have a few questions. Of course dealer told me everything is great and wonderful but I would like to hear from the actual owners.
1. During test drive, the engine seemed to be rather rough at idle (AT in drive). Well, It wasn't really that rough but it wasn't as smooth as my wife's 2005 Civic EX. I just feel that a car at this price should be at least as smooth as a Civic if not smoother. Dealer said it will take a few hundred miles to break in. Is that true?
2. Is there anyone pairing a Treo 650 with the bluetooth HandsfreeLink? How well do they work together? Any problems?
3. How well does the NAV system work in city with tall buildings. I drive to the New York City from time to time. My experience with after market NAV system is not too positive. I have a TomTom Go and it lost signal frequently in the City, just when I need it most. Does the TSX NAV system have the same kind of problem?
Thanks to all

1. Not sure why you had that experience since the K24 is easily one of the smoothest I4 motors that Honda has produced. Perhaps it was just the example that you drove. I would recommend trying another one just to get a comparison.
2. The Treo seems to work fine, though it may not show the power levels. I don't remember if the integration is full. Check http://www.handsfreelink.com to see.
3. The Nav system is also linked to a very simple calculation algorithm that keeps track of the vehicles changes in direction and the vehicle speed to calculate approximate location if it looses the signal to the satellites. From what I understand, this system works extremely well and is almost as accurate as the satellites. Perhaps someone who lives in NYC can chime in and confirm how well their Navi tracks in downtown.

1. It's a known issue: http://www.acura-tsx.com/forums/show...ine+idle+rough or just search for "rough engine idle". I was kinda disappointed by it too, but it doesn't happen often and almost always only within the first few minutes of driving.
3. I havent' had an issue, it seems to work jsut fine in parking garages at least, and the downtowns I've been in so far (though non with quite the wall to wall backing of skyscrappers)

This is news to me
The very first time I gased my TSX up I forgot to turn off the engine. After pumping gas I went to start the car up (yes it was already running
) I was crank the car more than once because MY car was so quite at idle. And I own a 2004 model. Go figure.

Treo 650 syncs and works great, I've got one. It displays signal strength on the mid, but not battery life. Call it 98% functionality. Not that you should have to know your battery life every second anyway.

1. Mine doesnt have a rough idle
2. Paired Fine with my razr, the worst that may happen with your treo, is you wouldnt know the battery life
3. Navi does great in NYC. It actually tracked me in the battery tunnel, not via gps, but via the algorithm (as mentioned by CGTSX2004)
BTW - if you are buying in NY area, I would advise you to go to Acura of Larchmont. They have the greatest customer service that I experienced in the 5 borough, and if you do decide to go there, pm me and I'll call up the sales guy myself and tell him that Im sending someone.

Thanks for the pointers. You guys are awesome.
I would like to test drive again with another car just to confirm the rough idle. But there was only one left in the lot other than the one inside the showroom. It is really not a big deal. Consider the whole package, I like the TSX better than anything else in this price range.
I think I am going to pull the trigger this week. Now comes the hard part – color; I am leaning toward grey/quartz or royal blue/ebony, wife said white/parchment. It is going to be a tough decision.
ZhenyaF, Thanks for your offer but I am living about 70 miles from Larchmont, a bit too far to do business there.

As for your color choices, my $.02 says that the 2004 CG/Quartz TSX I had was the bomb. The second best choice is the 2006 Royal Blue/Ebony I have now. After having both, I think I like the ebony interior better though. Carbon Gray is definitely the best exterior color.

Accord V6 (coupe)
Subaru Legacy GT
Mazda 6 (v6)
Audi A3/A4 (only consider if reliability stats don't bother you)
VW GTIs (same as above)
Mercedes C230 (same as above)
BMW 325
Saab 9-3
and don't forget to at least try test driving the Acura TL if nothing else
the TSX is not for everyone, that's for sure - doesn't mean they're wrong, though a few of them will think YOU are for choosing the TSX.
good luck, and I hope the TSX is the one for you. i have an '04 CG/ebony, so obviously you know my first choice. I'd have to say that the more i see the white/parchment, the more i like it - but it's not my style (there's something really pleasing about that TSX white, though), though right now i think it's my 2nd favorite... but i've also always been partial to black when it's clean
Agree with Jason and Vitocorleone. I like carbon gray/quartz best but the boss hates dark color. I am still trying to convince her.
Just called the dealer to find out color availability. It turns out I may not have many choices. The dealer is getting 12 TSX in at the end of the week but 9 of them have already been booked, unbelievable! The only one left with NAV is in silver/ebony. It looks like either Acura didn’t make enough cars or the TSX is a real hot seller. But I don’t remember seeing that many TSX on the road. I wonder where do they go?
Anyway, I am waiting for a call from my dealer. They are going to check around to see if other dealers have any carbon gray or white.

I see more and more TSXs every day. It took a while but folks are realizing how great an overall deal this car is.
Other than a few annoying quirks, you should be happy.
The TSX looks best in a darker color and carbon gray looks the most sophisticated, IMO.
Be patient with your purchase and wait for the color/navi you want. Good luck.

1. you may want to test drive another one. personally, when i drove tsx right after driving the TL, i was shocked how quick acceleration response and the light handling it was.
2. for what i know and from my friends, any phones with bluetooth should 100% work
3. Hey, i have a TSX 06 auto + nav system. I reside in Northern NJ (about 10 minutes from Manhattan). i frequently drive to city for work and etc...
Nav system is great. Trust me on this ^ ^ ; i've driven my family's Mercedes nav, friend's Lexus nav...
one small thing is that the voice on nav is little soft and quiet (let's say you are driving in city with some music on , windows down...driving down broadway..) , but you can always use the touch screen and make the voice louder.
Nav guide is , i think the best accurate nav system you can get in a stock car.

Ok, I did it. Just placed an order. My wife hates dark color and I don’t like parchment interior so I settle for a sliver/quartz, AT5 with navi. It should be ready for pick up by the end of next week. Wish me luck.

I am still waiting for my Silver/Quartz to come in. Dealer told me they could get the car I want in two days before I placed order. Now almost two weeks later, they still don't have the car. I even gave them three other color alternatives and and they said they cannot find any of them in the tri-state area. I should have realized it was the end of the month and the sales need to make his number. He will say anything to get me sign the paper. I am really pissed and disappointed.
