Thinking about a TSX...Need some advice..
Hey guys,
I've been looking at a 2005 TSX A/T from a local dealer over the last week as a hopefully reliable ride for the next couple years. The body and interior are in great shape, the only potential downside is that it currently has 160k on it. The motor is clean and after a test drive, it seemed to run great. The sticker price was listed at $6,995, but I made a significantly lower offer (6k out the door) and I'm awaiting a response back whether it was accepted or not. CarFax notes 3 previous owners..and includes a few minor service records..(no major engine/transmission issues).
I'm just curious what you guys think about the mileage and the price..and whether its worth getting or not. I have no previous experience with Acuras so I'm not keen to their condition once the miles get up there...Any help or advice you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated.

A good check is to look at Completed Sales in Ebay for similar TSX's. This will give you a good feel for market.
Have you had a detailed vehicle inspection? I always do this and invaribly find some details that justify a downward adjustment in sales price. Minor things like lights out, repaired body damage, torn CV boot, steering rack boot, etc all can add up to serious dollars.
The inspection should include a decent drive and check of OBD2 system for any codes or pending codes. Many times a shop will reset the system to mask a check engine light that indicates need for repairs.
good luck

I'd offer $5000 or $5500 out the door.

I tried to go with $5500 and they weren't budging, however, I think I'd be able to get away with $6000 out the door. Do you guys think its worth it?
Another concern I have is whether or not the timing belt/water pump have been changed at that mileage.. The CarFax doesn't show anything and they don't have a clue. Is there any way to check or is it a risk I'm just gonna have to take? Thanks.

The only service records I have come from the CarFax (which is freely available online).. Do you think that is sufficient enough to warrant a buy? I'd link it if I could but I can provide the VIN if you're willing to take a look at it..

You do a pre-purchase fluid analysis via Blackstone (http://www.blackstone-labs.com/lemon-aide.php). In the absence of the complete service history, this will give you a good piece of mind to pay $6000 or less. I would recommend doing the transmission fluid too.

It's a tough call. The problems that could pop up in a car that old, w/ that many miles, kind of make buying for it $5K, $5500, or $6K irrelevent. You'll have to decide based on what you think of the car.
