Thinking about getting a USED TSX

I currently have a 2003 BMW 745i sport model but the warranty is about to expire and repairs are quite expensive.

I am thinking about a 2005 + TSX with nav? I like the RL but have recently become dissabled and cannot afford car payments right now. I owned a 2000 tl many years back and loved it. My only concern about the tsx is its 4 banger and i might be at a loss for power and I take log trips 500 miles each way sometimes.

Are there any pro & cons to the TSX? Another consideration is the 2006+ civic but at 280 lbs and 5'11" it may be too small for me?

Thanks in advance for all and any replies.

Chris

I would go 2006 or newer, many improvements over the 04 & 05. You will be amazed at the superb 4 cyl and more importantly the hwy mpg's. The TSX has plenty of power IMO!

The other guy is right. I am 19 and I wanted a 350Z before I bought this and I drove Z 1 time. No regrets about buying a TSX. 34 MPG highway FOR REAL and 38 on a country road with cruise control used all the time. German GPS systems are behind. Car is very reliable, fun to drive, roomy enough and 4 cyl engine is more impressive than u may expect. I stomped 325i's, Accords, Sonatas and other cars with mine. Standart features make it 10 grand cheaper than equally equipped MB or BMW. My advice- go for TSX.

You will hear from owners that you can't go wrong with a TSX, and its pretty true. Don't compare the TSX inline-4 with other 4-cyl engines. Its very powerful. I remember when I was thinking about getting a TL because I didn't want the 4-banger. I was thinking the TSX 4-cyl would be like my Corolla's 4-cyl, but I was very wrong.

You do have to consider relativity though in your case as a previous BMW 745 owner. You will definitely notice that it isn't as powerful as a 4.5L BMW. But quality is there. It drives nicely and smoothly just like your BMW, just not as powerful. I had a Corolla before the TSX, so changing to a TSX is going to be a very different experience for you than it was for me. I just know that you won't regret it, and empirically speaking, you won't have very many problems with it at all.

Just don't get a 2004 model! Everyone knows that.

yea, 04 was kinda underdeveloped. Mine is 05, but I would like 06 model with 4th generation Acura GPS system and bluetooth. Oh and 205HP instead of 200

I just bought an 06. Coming from a 5 series...The TSX has an impressive power house. EVERY singler person that has driven my car thinks its a V6.

i'd get an 06 if i were you. just for the updated nav and bluetooth (though i think the 05 "look" is slightly nicer rims and bumper covers and grill wise).

I dont think a used TSX is a bad idea. granted mine is in the shop , but I'm told its a freak problem. I'd buy one again.

I love my car, I just wished my old car wasn't stolen because the girl I'm seeing right now lives 50 miles away, so I'm putting at least 400 miles a week on my car now (including the usual commute to work).

BTW, gas mileage isn't that great for me but I have the 6-speed. MID says I'm doing ~29 with 100% highway, which means I'm getting about 27-27.5 real world. I do need an oil change though, fwiw, so it might go up after that.

Point being, buy a 2006-8 TSX. I effing love my car, I plan to keep it until some whore thinks they deserve my car more than I do and steals it.

04 isn't bad, you're just more likely to experience problems with an 04 model since it was the 1st one out. Also, owners have reported frequent problems with 04s on this forum and elsewhere. Its not a surprise though that you have 04 that doesn't experience problems. Some do and some don't. I have an 06, so I wouldn't know, but I've heard from the gurus that 04 is most likely to have the problems.

I picked up a 2004 TSX a few days ago (*Been on this board a couple of years since my sister has a 06*) for a price I couldn't turn down, definitely a very reliable and semi-luxury car. If you are coming from a BMW, don't expect BMW quality material inside the cabin. You will also notice that each panel of the car is very thin and hollow. Also for power difference from the 6 cylinder to Inline 4, you won’t notice it much on a straight road but on a hill or with people in your car, you will notice it.

I suggest you go test drive one first, other than that, great car, nice handling, good value and very reliable.

I gotta agree with the rest. And the only thing I would really suggest is to go 06+ on your search. 07 or 08 if possible. The addition of the tire pressure monitoring system is pretty nice. If nothing else, its reminded me to adjust my pressure when the temperature dropped. But I like the piece of mind of knowing that if I do get a slow leak, I'll know about it. The TSX isn't going to be as powerful as your BMW, or as roomy as a 7 series. If that's what you're looking for, you won't like it. But compared to your BMW, it does get excellent gas mileage. And should be more than adequate space wise, just not as cavernous as your current car.

I would also recommend that you find an Acura Certified Pre Owned vehicle if possible. It'll cost you a little more, but the extended warranty you get with it would be worth it. 5 year 62k bumper to bumper and 7 year 100k powertrain.

Well I test drove a 2005 TSX and I liked it but was not impressed by the power. I expected it to be much quicker than my Girlfriends 2008 civic and it was not. Seemed to have alot of vibration felt in the cabin as well so it could have been that car. Around town it was fine but there was little to no power for passing. I know its not fair to compare a TSX to my BMW so i wont but I have decided to wait for the new 2009s to come down in the used car market and in a few years try again. Thanks for all your advice.

Don't buy until the last few days of the month.

If you can get into the 2006, there are a few added features, and slightly more power, over 2005. Slightly. 2004 ... sorry guys, but avoid the 2004. Several known, recurring issues.

I've heard from many that the Civic Si has a similar (same?) engine as the TSX and is a fun little jalopy. Won't find as many amenities though (leather seating, Bluetooth, etc.).

If you're not sure of getting Navi or non-Navi ... go with Navi. It's one of the best in the market.

If you haven't thought of an RSX, look at 2005 and 2006 RSX'. They're quite fun, though like the TSX, the styling is rather banal and understated. Some (me) like that; YMMV.

Happy hunting!
