Test Drove "other" car last night
My girl is convinced she wants a VW and won't consider any Japanese cars...so I said OK hun lets go test drive some Jettas and the like. For the record, I bought my mint '04MT Navi w/ body kit and 30k miles for $22k. So when she drove the $21k Jetta 2.5 she was like..."wow...you did real good" with the Acura. ;-) ...she had a tough time enjoying the VW because she is used to my car.
I know that the Jetta lists for 7k to 9k less than the TSX, but it was a nice feeling to see first hand where the money goes. The Jetta dash controls are cheap feeling, the seats uncomfortable, the engine sound is somehow not smooth and reassuring, the stereo is miserable...some stuff was cool and innovative...something that is nearly always absent in the Honda realm as we know...but overall it was a cheap feeling car.
Now I guess I have to drive an A4 and see how that stands up. When I drove an '04 I remember being unimpressed with it...then I drove the TSX and snapped it righ t up.

my sister had an 01 jetta and I hated it with a passion...felt tinny to me
I really like the way they are marketing the front side impact ratings of the jetta (where it nails the pickup backing out of the driveway); thought that was one of the best car commercials I have ever seen.

My sister has a 2002 Jetta and it has been a warrenty whore. New tranny (auto) within 20,000 miles. The windows dropped into the door from broken clips (apparently an issue that has occured on many jetta's). The brake sensor failed making it nearly impossible to get the car into drive (and doesn't light the tail lights). It has been terrible. They may make the interiors very luxurious for their price range, but I would never ever consider a VW or Audi product again.

Sure those are catchy commercials, but did you notice how it states the Jetta has a four star frontal crash rating? TSX? Five star. It's like VW is shouting "Hey! Look at us we're almost as good as everyone else!"

^^ your are 100% right, not that I doubted you, but those commercials are pretty misleading
the 06 tsx got unbelievable ratings... http://www.internetautoguide.com/cra...341/index.html
while as you said the jetta did not as well

I traded my 2001 Jetta 2.0 for my 2006 TSX and haven't looked back since. To sum it up, here's the pros and cons of owning a VW (still own a 2002 Passat 1.8T):
Pros
The cars have an "aura" about them that's undeniable
Fun to drive factor, only on the turbo model's
Fit & finish is next to none, goes for both Audi and VW
Contain nifty engineering, the sunroof dial comes to mind first here
Quality of leather interior is superior
VW/Audi community is a tight-knit, helpful bunch of people
Cons
Service department will know your first, middle and last name and your VIN # by heart
VW's are notorious for rattles
Accumulated a lot of "recall" notices for small and large items (window motors in doors, coilpacks in engine, electronic issues, etc.)
You don't want the VW service dept. to know your name because more than likely, they'll treat you like crap anyways (uncustomer focused)
Was never once 100% sure the car would get me from Point A to Point B on long road trips
Jetta = Feminine design

just break up with her, because if you get the VW you will have another relationship to support, the service manager...
i have never heard anything good about a VW in terms of it being reliable or low maintence...
also thanks to with their ad campaign i feel that they get into accidents a lot...

Don't even consider a VW. I just had mine bought back under the Lemon Law after 5 months of owning it. It was an 06 GTI. I liked the car, but it was in the shop for a total of 27 days when I owned it. They replaced the cam shaft adjuster, fuel injector, and ignition coil. After all that, it still broke down on me.

I might have be investing in a VW next year. My wife REALLY likes the new VW Eos that's about to release. Its a coupe, hardtop convertible. I guess we'll take it for a spin. I mean, i guess its fine as a "girl" car. Might be fun with the retractable hard top....i guess.
