Arrow Test drove a 2010 TSX V6!

This is the first thread I've posted on here so I apologize if it's not the best or if I messed something up.

Stopped by the dealership the other day to pick up some touch up paint and asked if they had the new 2010 TSX just for grins. The salesman said they did and about 30 seconds later asked if I wanted to test drive one! Here's my attempt at a summary of my experience.

Interior:

- Seats are more comfortable. No fake wood on the doors. Everything just feels better. The upgraded navi was pretty cool. I guess it's pretty standard but it would be a nice upgrade from my 06 which has never been updated The navi also has the back up cam which was pretty cool to use. All of the info that was seen in the dash (in-between the gauges) has been moved to the navi screen. Road noise has been reduced significantly especially under acceleration.

Exterior:
- In my opinion the TSX is not a car that should catch your eye when it goes down the road but the 2010 isn't too bad. The 18'' wheels and redesigned body help but the overall styling doesn't really fit me. The huge chrome grill is still present which only looks good against certain colors IMO.

Performance:
- Wow! was the only thing I could say. For an Acura (non SH-AWD) the car handled great! I could definitely feel the difference with the V6. The paddle shifters were fun to use but the lag is still there when shifting. The new TSX is definitely above and beyond the previous generation with the V6, 18'' wheels, and suspension. Granted you guys that have forced induction and aftermarket suspension and wheels have the 2010 beat but it's good for a bone stock Acura.

Price:
- Well I can never afford it at the moment and if I could I wouldn't buy it. I would rather have a used 08 TL type-S, BMW M5, or an Evo 9MR but that's just me. As others have said the price increase does seem a bit much for the V6.

Overall:
- Overall I'd say the car is solid regarding the numerous features and performance. Looks are good (not great) IMO. Price is too high but I guess that's just what they have to charge to make profit. I'll probably never buy one but it was definitely a fun car to drive. You guys should definitely go test drive the car and see what you think of it. As for now I'll keep my 06 and keep the mods coming!

Wait a few months, I highly doubt it will be selling for MSRP then. Then it will seem like a better deal.

Grills can be changed. The no M/T thing... /facepalm

@trebor - you really think it handles great? i.e. better than your '06? From what I've read the car is no longer as balanced.

Agree the grill can be changed. I've heard of guys sanding and painting it and the results being excellant. My 06 handles alright but I feel like it slides out in turns thus meaning understeer. I didn't feel much of that if any in the 2010. It may be true that the car is not as balanced and it could be I was just excited to drive it but I thought it handled better. Anyone know if the changed the suspension for the 2010? The salesmen said a lot of the 08 TL parts went into the 2010...whatever that means

i was seriously considering getting the new v6 to replace my 07, and after just sitting in the car, i saw its a whole diff car. i didnt really like that its so much bigger, and something about that very cheap thin leather around the shifter just turned me off. like the 1st gen styling way better. and for the price of the v6, add a few grand and you have the best car ever... 3 series!

My cousin told me that the reason they didnt come out with a real M/T (stick shift) is because they will be releasing a TSX-S which sorta makes sense because there was a rsx-s, tl-s so hopefully its true and maybe we can see a tsx-s soon

You'd have to build a stronger transmission for the V6, hopefully there is some development for it

Ahh speculation...I certainly hope this comes true.

The V6 Accord coupe is available with a M/T, and it has similar output to the TSX V6. Not a huge stretch to see Acura do it, but they seem to be abandoning the "shift for yourself" crowd like most other manufacturers.

....and even painted the grill is ugly IMHO....better....but still ugly.

The TL has a manual so I don't think that's the problem.

I don't understand why they can't use the 6MT they had in the 3G TL. The V6 TSX is basically a 3G TL with a different body...

I think this is the main deal killer. Grills and suspensions can be fixed. Being overpriced can't. For the price they want, there are too many other choices that wind up being better deals. I'm definitely going to own my 06 until they get into a third gen TSX and see what that's about.

If they can get the 6-speed SH-AWD going into the TL shoe-horned in with the V-6... they actually may be able to start competing with the 3 series and IS. From a price point, it's still a huge value to either of those brands.

It'd be nice if Acura could compete but I've accepted that my TSX will never keep up with the BMW's, IS's, etc. I'm finding the Acura line seems to be more about style and class rather than making a high performance machine. Can it be done? Yes, but not without spending a lot of money. And if I did have that money...I'd just buy an M6 Just my opinion.

I'll pass on the '10 as well... Don't like the design style, that front grille, and no m/t... The m/t in the 1st gen is what makes the car...

The info is all still available in the dash. It's in the center of the right gauge (speedo I think).

Yup, the grill (new design) has been the deal breaker for almost all of us.

Same here test drove a month ago. I liked it but i was at a stop light and put in sport, once i took off and hit about 3k rpm i got tire squeak and i was not gunning that hard. I would buy only if i can get for the same price of my TSX that i paid for.

I can see your point about price.

I'm also very curious about the direction Acura is heading in the future because I wasn't too pleased with the ZDX design.

The first V6 owner signed in over in 2G. He got his V6 base for invoice ($32k). I think that's an incredible price for the car.

yeah, why is it overpriced? a similarly equipped 335 is Mid to upper 40s, and you can walk out of there with a fully loaded V6 TSX for 32-33k? Much more car for the buck if you ask me.

there was a black on black tsx v6 in the showroom today and it was awesome. I think it was fully loaded for 35k MSRP.

To be fair, the $35k MSRP is for a V6 base, non tech (so no navi). MSRP for a V6 Tech model is $38k, but invoice is just under $35k. If you one can manage to get a V6 Tech for $35k, which is fully loaded, it's a steal IMO.

Its overpriced because it $5,500 more than the 4 cylinder. Until someone can convince me there's $5,500 worth of added content in the V6... its overpriced IMO.

Not to mention its only a couple of hundred less than a TL. Granted the TL is an ugly car but a lower end model with less content shouldn't' be the same price as its big brother.

oh, it had a blank screen recessed into the dash... I just assumed it was navi without looking at the window sticker. So even the non-navi's have a screen now?

I didn't see it anywhere and the salesman I was riding with didn't say anything about it so I assumed it wasn't there. Who knows...

Regarding the extra $5500. Don't forget it has the 18's, bigger brakes (I think), and some amazing looking V6 emblem

Considering the Comptech S/C alone would cost the same if not more than $5500 installed. You would still have to purchase intake, header, cat, exhaust to keep pace with the 3.5L TSX. I wouldn't do the labor myself; but, all that would cost me between $6,000-$7,500 on my 06 TSX for everything.

The 3.5L is a pretty good compromise for those wanting more power. In a few months there will be I/H/E for the 3.5L TSX to up the HP. Just purchase the mugen front end and you will have a car 100% unique for any luxury brand.
