Synthetic Blend oil.. anyone run it?
I got some coupon for a $15 oil change with syn blend... I am on 5W30 (full syn)... can I use the blend for 1 cycle (probably go back to syn after)?

I wouldn't. $15 isn't worth toying with your engine.

IIRC there's a thread (may be hard to find at this point, I can't seem to find anything before the forum update) where an engineer ran gas chromatograph or mass spec (can't remember which) on his oil after it had been run, and from this made some determination of engine wear - this may help answer your question. Regardless, it was a really interesting thread.

I use the Mobil 1 extended performance fully synthetic 5w30.. it also says good up to 15,000 miles but i change it every 3,000.. its alil over $7 a bottle though..

Let me help you!
The extended performance is probably for fleet cars, where people don't want to abuse the car because some fleet cars might have black boxes in them ;-P

Synthetic Blend should hold up fine. The owners manual even states conventional oil is good enough. It crazy how everyone in this thread thinks they're driving a Porsche. It's a Honda engine, nothing special...same one as the CRV!

my acura sanctuary
But those who are just commuting and family driving could get away with many more miles than 3k with Mobil synth. That is the point of synth - longer intervals. Hey if you can afford the extra $$ for more changes and $$ oil that's cool.
My synth blend use was only once when I went to a nearby independent acura garage who uses synth blend by default (Castrol). I asked for full synth but he said that Acura engine gaskets were susceptible to leak with full synth. I just went with his recommendation. So in 30k miles, I have used full, blend synth and honda dino. hardly any difference to me in engine feel. maybe shifting is a little smoother for the first week of the oil change. I really don't have a stance. Dino seems fine for me. I save that money toward crazy $$ stereo cables at home where I can tell the difference.

Make a hole, coming thru!
$15 for a synthblend oil change? I'd be skeptical. I wonder if that even pays for the oil, let alone the filter, and the labor. Where was this?
Local AAA Automarks sometimes offer $20 oil changes, but that's their run o' the mill dino oil, cheap filter, no extras. I usually only pay $15-20 in labor plus the filter cost when I bring my own oil.
I believe I've read in other threads that Honda techs recommended dino oil for ... what? ... the first 10,000 miles to "set in" the seals and stuff, then switching to synth was ok? Memory is failing ... I'd check previous threads (heres a Google search for threads).[1]
I just use synth, get it cheap at Costco (last purchase was "buy 1 case, get a case free"). Changes on my engine seem to have been coming at around 5000-6000 miles (by the oil life indicator). I don't push it, I don't want a repair under my extended warranty to be declined with "you haven't done maintenance on time, so you're liable for damage."
[1] Guys, Google search seems to find old threads ... just preface your Google search with "site:tsx.acurazine.com."

Well, it's does have higher compression ratio resulting in the requirement for premium fuel.

Your car will not know the difference between regular and synthetic oil. The maintenance light will come on at the same point regardless of what kind oil you use.

Just synthetic. I buy a jug of it at Walmart and ask the dealer to use my oil when I take it in for the oil change.

Do it yourself. I'm sure you know how easy it is. Except when its -20 outside. But you don't have those issues.
