this is nothing new.
no you won't lose any function at all.
I have this.
It works perfectly.
Just need to get it cut and programmed.
If you have an 04-05 or whatever that doesn't have memory seats,
you can just disable that function on the fob, no biggie.

because not all dealers cut keys.
my dealer does not cut keys.
any dealer that cuts keys should and probably will do this.
you have to pay them an hour or so of labor to cut and program the key.
it's easy money for them, they'll do it.
if your dealer doesn't cut keys, just have a master locksmith do it.
call around tell them exactly what kind of car you have and that you want
the immobilizer chip programmed. And the key cut too of course.

I'm not sure I'd give a $100 key to Ace Hardware to cut. If you do, have them do a test cut on a regular blank first.
I got mine cut at a specialty locksmith. He cut it by the key code instead, and also did a test run on a blank to make sure the fitment was good before he cut the one I brought in. Should cost THAT much more. (cost me $4 at the locksmith I went to)

Dude...read his reply! Go to a specialized locksmith! As far as finding one in your area, you're just going to have to look in the Yellow Pages.
I got my TL Switchblade in the first batch of FLBusa's keys about 1 1/2 years ago, and it's still going strong

hey man,
when you went to get your key chip programmed...did you have to bring your 2 master keys and valet key to get reprogramed?
reason i ask is because i have my valet key used up for my remote start and its a PITA to remove just to get reprogramed...

They also had their own OBDII programmer for the immobilizer but they couldn't get it to program my keys correctly so I had to go to the dealer to do it. (they were using a Silca SDD device that they said they had no problems with programming Honda keys).
buste2:
If I remember correctly, you have to bring ALL your keys when getting it reprogrammed. I know the 3rd party programmers (like the Silca) require them to clear out all the keys and re-add them back. I'm not 100% sure about the Acura programmers, but when I took mine into Acura, they wanted me to bring all my keys as well. Since each key has a unique transponder chip embedded in the key, they'll require that all the keys be present when programming it.
If you're using a 3rd party alarm, wouldn't the alarm remote control your door functions anyways? Why would you want this key fob?
Just wondering...
Locksmith did my cut for free. It was a little difficult to cut because of the attached remote. He was still able to cut it. On the other hand, Acura charged about $115 to add the key to the system and I programed my own alarm too. Highway robbery. I wish I had the programming computer and did it myself. I think the max is 4 keys in memory and I didn't bring all my keys in.
yes, read my posts.
you'll need to go to:
Acura Dealership (if they cut keys)
OR
MASTER Locksmith (capable of programming immobilizer chips)
after your key arrives from FLBusa you'll need to do 3 things:
1. Cut the key (this is done a special way, from the backstop, NOT the tip!!)
2. Have the IMMOBILIZER CHIP programmed using current software to do so.
(this 2nd step has to be done at Acura or at/with a Master Locksmith)
3. Program the key fob buttons to work. (do this yourself, it's super easy)
the FLBusa site has the instructions you need to hand to the person who is
cutting the key. Be sure to print them out and give them to the key cutter.
the FLBusa site also had instructions for you to program the fob buttons yourself.
Acura or a Master Locksmith will already know how to operate their software to
program the immobilizer chip.
You only need to bring your other keys with you in case the programmer messes up.
They won't need to re-program your other keys unless they make a mistake.
there. now read this post again please.
enjoy your switchblade keys!

Just wondering...its for the girlfriend...she doesn't like to carry a lot of keys with her...but also whenever i go to the dealership for service...they don't like aftermarket alarms...so i always just give them the key...so if i have this...i can please the gf and also if i ever have to leave my car overnight...they have the remote to lock the car since there are a lot of lazy people out there too lazy to push the lock switch on the door

I just bought one 2 or 3 months ago?? I took it to a Locksmith, Spent more time in line waiting and them trying to program it for me than it took for them to cut it. They charged me $65 just for the cut! I swear to god it took this "Chick" 20 seconds to cut it! I also had to come back for them to program it for me (which they wanted to charge me for as well) Home Depot could have cut for me for 3 bucks!
Dealers & Locksmiths = Rip offs! :angryfire

Thanks for the info. Good to know there is a place in town to get it done. Mine is in the mail.

I ended up having to go to Acura to have the adding of the new key done.
we don't know anything 100% yet...
key wise...they're the exact same thing...however...the transmitter could be different...
example...RDX/MDX keys look the same, but the keyless transmitter is useless for the RSX/TSX/TL...
TL keys work perfectly for the TSX/TL/some RSX's...but not for the RDX/MDX...
my bet would be that it would work since the 09 TL will have smart access keyless start...pretty much sure the 09 TSX took over the inventory for the 07-08 TL keys...

Good to hear. I know a few folks have had the epoxy work its way loose, which was to be expected until someone could mill them. Good news is, very simple to re-expoxy or buy this milled key.

nah, mine is solid and durable. Whatever you did for mine works great.

BUT make sure you disable the memory seat thing on the keyfobs, the dealership didn't know about that, and when they tried to program the keyfobs, kept telling me that they could only get the keyfob do everything except unlock the car, and only after 2-3 hours of pain sitting in my own garage having the car alarm go off everytime I tried to program it, did I realize I had to turn off the stupid memory thing, after that it worked fine!

So, what would we need to find out about the 09 TSX key to let us know if it'll work in the 08? I'm on the midnight shift this week (so I have plenty of free time during the day,) and I'll be passing right by one of the locksmiths listed on the flbusa site on Friday. If I can find out what I need to know from the Acura dealership, I'd be willing to give it a shot. I can get the blank for about $40, but then the locksmith would have to mill and cut it as well as program it.

I just test drove the 08 TSX for the second time today and noticed that the key was separate from the unlock/lock button. I thought that was odd as I haven't seen a car like that for ages. Even my 2003 Accord has the combo key. It's good to see that you can get a key and combine this. Can anybody post a picture of the other side of the key and what it looks like closed? Also can somebody explain what it how the immobilizer is programmed? Thanks
would this key work on the 07 tsx?

If you have a decent locksmith, they should be able to tell you what transponder chip is used in the key. The locksmith I went to was able to take my original OEM key, and pass it through a machine that gave the transponder name. He then took my switchblade key and did the same thing with it to verify they were using the same transponder. If you happen to have one of the 09 TSX keys, I'm sure you can have a locksmith try it before milling and cutting it. Ask your local locksmith to see if they have the equipment to do this.
I've got a truly crazy idea. The kind that only comes to you at 4:30 in the morning. Why don't I just ask the dealer if it'll work. Hopefully somebody in the parts department will know if the transmitter matches the one in the fob and the immobilizer can be programmed for the 08. I might just have to do that tomorrow or Tuesday.
it sucks for you tsx owners because you have to take it to acura to get it programmed but with the TL key for a rsx is just using a blank milled from home depot and modding it onto the housing and gettting it cut and home depot or something, i always thought the older style model tsx uses a key like the rsx seeing that it would be very easy to do this mod
because i do this mod for rsx owners on , using the TL key mod and telling them they can bring it to home depot to get it cut
