Thanks again to FLBUSA. He was very helpful in the process of explaining the procedures of the modded TL key. I got mine cut and programmed at Radley Acura of Baileys for 102.00 incl tax...kinda pricey but didnt really research any other places. Contact FLBUSA and get one too!

So got my key cut and programmed for $40 dollars at Island Acura in Wantaugh, L.I.. There service goes by 1/2 hour intervals so $50 a 1/2 hour and the service adviser gave me a $10 discount. Took less than 15 minutes and he only took one key and added it. I tested all keys and they work. This dealer had this huge tablet looking computer that he programmed my car with. Great experience, fun drive.

So 95bones + 40bux to program and cut-key at acura dealership?

Was it worth it? Kinda on the fence on this, because I already have the accord fob mod done 2yrs ago.

My dealership charged $40 out the door to program the key. When I took it to a local locksmith to have the key cut he said "this is the easiest cut we do." That cost me $1 per side to have it cut for a total of $2s for those who can't add. So getting it cut wasn't the issue, and shouldn't be for any of you. The lockshop that I went to is the best in town, actually came recommended from another locksmith, with that said, not even the best lockshop in town could program the key. That is how I wound up at the dealership paying $40, a price I don't think is bad considering what everyone else has paid. So overall $95+2+40=$137. That is about the price of what the stealership would charge for just a stardard remote with pairing it to the car. Not bad at all. FLBusa is great.

I paid 40 dollars to get my key programmed so I quite lucky. You should be thankful that all you paid was $137. Some people have paid that alone just to program the key!

Well first you have to find either a locksmith or Acura dealer that does the programming. I shopped around for about a week, calling the nearest dealers on the phone, and stopping by locksmiths on my routes to errands. If you have an '07 you have less chances of finding a locksmitht that can program 07's. They don't have the programming update for the 07 ecu, only dealers do. Be aware that some locksmiths will use you as a lab rat to see if they can program 07's or not. They will say "yah" they do it and you end up going out of your way and distances for a good price but you still end up with a non-functional key because they wanted to experiment on you. You at least get a free cut!

Personally, I love the key! I've had it for about 4 days now and its so much better than the accord key fob and the stock TSX remote and key. On several of my jeans, shorts, and pants. There's a small pocket which fits the TL key fob. I don't need to sit on it and having to worry that I might break it and get it roughed up.

I spent $95 on the key blank + $0 to cut the key @ a locksmith + $40 at the dealer for programming + $20 gas = $155.

The trick is if you need to have it programmed by the dealer to find a dealer that charges for service rates by the 1/2 hour and not the hour. In NY, dealers' hourly charge range from $100-150. I luckily found one (Island Acura, L.I., NY) that does $50 by the 1/2 hour and he gave me a $10 discount since I programmed the remotes myself and cut the key elsewhere.

I think that the key to having them cut it for a reasonable price is to ask them to breakdown how much they would charge to program a new "standard" TSX key. When they show you that I cannot imagine that they would be charging somewhere in the neighborhood $200 for a new key, cut, and programmed. That would be a scam and no one would pay that, my guess is that it should be around $50. Or just asked the dealer what it will be, like I did, "so what do you think $40 or so?" The dealer said that sounded about right and when they came back it was $40 on the dot. Plus, whenever they do service they always give you an estimated cost, just look at that. My guess is that they charged so much because they didnt want to do it. So they throw a crazy high number out there and if you pay, great, if you dont, no skin off their back.

Wow we all wish that was true but even for a Honda Accord '98 it cost $75 dollars to program without the cost of the key. I don't think that many people that program they're keys at the dealer know that if you were to buy they key from the dealer that it would still be the same price for programming. The price you pay for service does NOT include the price for the key. The parts department sells the key and the service dept. programs it. Two separate charges.

Service prices at the dealer always remain the same. Even if you were there installing something that took a minute and something as easy a gas cap, you still pay the service fee. Every dealer has their service fee set and you can find it written on the wall of the dealer you service at. There is no play with numbers except coupons or small discounts. Mechanics run the same way; on a hourly wage!

Slickrab you should really read this thread...a TON of people have got it for $50 or less, you're getting ripped off. Contact FLBusa and ask him about a dealership in your area who charges a resonable price.

I don't think you can read! If you look a couple threads back I state that I got my key programmed at the dealer for $40 dollars. My writings were to give a heads up to those have not already done the mod and to simplify for those who have trouble reading. I could be referring to you fish008 but its your call to think what you wanna think. Read through the posts well!

My apologies, slick. I guess I didn't pay close enough attention as I was reading. Congrats on the good deal for programming. Either way the link I posted is a great resource.

Unfortunately for me, I have to get it programmed at the dealer because I haven't been able to locate a locksmith with a system that can program the 07s yet. All the dealerships in Houston want $95-105 to program the immobilizer. I guess none of them do the 1/2 service. One dealer even wanted $30 bux just to cut the key!

My salesman was confused and though I wanted the remote buttons to be programmed. He had the technician add the key to the car and charged me $50 for it. It was one of those under-the-table deals but still good. Now that the key fully works, he even asked me about the key and where to get it from because he had a TSX as well. I gave him some info about it so he says he'll get one if he sees that I have no problems using it. So overall I spent the original $95 to get the key, then $5 to cut it, and then another $50 to program. Not so bad for such a great mod.

I also had a quick question for anyone reading this thread. The cut on the switchblade key doesn't look exactly like my factory keys. The notches and everything are the same places but different angles.... I think I'll probably have to post a picture so yall can see. I was wondering if anyone else's was the same...

I had my keys programmed at Karen Radley in Woodbridge, VA for $95.00 (mem1 and mem 2) as well as a free loaner. They were cut for free at a local locksmith.

Pohanka charges 97 per key or at least that's what I was quoted with.

You do not do anything to the key besides have the blade cut to fit your ignition and door locks and have the key which already includes the embedded "V" series chip programmed.

Ok, and when we're talking programmed thats just the series of pressing buttons and turning the ignition on and off, right?

NO! That would be remote programming which only opens the doors and allows the buttons on the key fob to function. That you can do yourself! What you can not do by yourself is program the immobilizer chip. If that is not programmed the immobilizer chip in the key will not communicate with the immobilizer in the car which won't allow your car to start. This process requires either a dealer or locksmith with the right diagnostic computer which he needs to hook up to your car to program the key that you want added.

I have a 2007 TSX.

So if I buy only an extra remote, say from KeylessRide.com, I can program that myself so that I have two remotes with the same memory position?

And then if I buy an extra key from my dealer, that takes care of the immob. chip?

Thanks!

Yes, if you take a look at your stock TSX remote it will say either MEM 1 or MEM 2 on the back. If you have not linked your key with the driver setting (press unlock and lock while car off) the seat wont automatically change when you open your door. If your remote is linked it should say welcome Driver 1 or 2 in the MID when you start the car. If it only says Welcome than the key is unlinked. YOu can have two Mem 1 keys linked at the same time and the same for MEM 2. The max keyless remotes you can have programmed at the same time I believe is 3. The max keys programmed to start the car is 4.

If you buy a key from your dealer for the TSX you will be paying the price of the key from the Parts department (Mem 1 $45-$50, Mem2 $55-65), the hourly service charge for the Service dept. to program the key to turn on your ignition ($90-150) and around $15 dollars for the Parts dept to cut the key. You can program the remote to open/lock the doors and trunk yourself. Everything else requires a dealer, locksmith, and cash MONEY.

Keys vs. Remote

Hi slickrab, thanks for the info.

But with the 2007 TSX, the key and remote are, as you likely know, separate items.

And while I have both MEM 1 (my wife's) and MEM 2 remotes linked, are the keys themselves linked?

(I mean linked the way the remotes are, such as for seat position.)

I thought not. I mean, aren't our current two keys interchangable? Even though the remotes are separate?

So while if I get a third remote for MEM 2, I can use both MEM 2 remotes with any of the keys, right, whether those are the two original main keys (not valet) or a new key?

Much appreciated!

Yes the remotes are different from the keys. The keys don't link with the remotes. The keys main purpose is to turn the ignition on and off. Memory seats is in the remotes and if you decide to swap your keys with any of the remotes the memory of the remote remains the same.

YES!

Yeah thats the thing. Even key cutting isn't perfect with the code or the original key. When I was trying to get this done the dealer said that they didn't want to do it because they said its a one time thing, as opposed with the regular key if it didn't cut right then all they'd have to do is get another key from their stock and try it again. It just sounds iike a really flawed system in my opinion. I didn't remember toyota's being so hard to cut for...

Unfortunately for me, the dealerships in Houston know about the modification and already told me that it was to be done at my own risk and that they wouldn't pay for the key if they messed it up. The guy said some shit about "yall trying to fuse a key together that's not supposed to be like that in the first place." It was quite an annoying ordeal for me. I couldn't find anyone willing to do it without me saying they don't have to pay for the key. Anyway I'm gonna get off the soap box and wish you good luck on your predicament.

well, its like this.. the chip in the key is the same as the others (v type or type 4) so the program will work.. the trick is getting the key aligned properly before they start the key.. THATS IT. but most dealers are bitches and make up stuff like the comment they gave you.. oh well
