sweat + leather

I workout everyday after work. I get into my TSX. The leather is kinda moist from my sweat afterwards. I just wipe it off with a paper towel once I'm home. Is this bad for the leather?

I purchased some Meguiars leather wipes and they should work better for you instead of paper towels because all you are doing is wiping the sweat into the leather with the paper towels........... With the wipes all of it should wipe clean.

No idea if it's bad per se, but it's kinda yucky. I'd use some leather cleaner on there once a week just in case.

Water/sweat is not great for leather, as it tends to wash out the oil in the leather. Using wipes with conditioner will help, but ideally, use a towel to prevent the sweat from getting on the leather.

I have this exact problem - I sweat a LOT at the gym. I do two things: bring a dry shirt to change into when I'm done working out, and I lay a clean towel on the seat to sit on for the ride home (I just keep the towl in the trunk and wash it now and again). Between the two, not much makes it to the seat. The moisture is one thing, but the cumulative potential stink build up is another thing I want to avoid.

Sorry if that was TMI.

Keep in mind that the leather in the TSX, like most cars in this range, is coated, so it acts just like a vinyl would. Most leather cleaners on the market are designed for uncoated leather, so they may not always be the best products to use. So after the gym, I always just do a quick wipedown with an interior detail spray or just a wet microfiber. When cleaning/detailing your car, I'd recommend trying 303 Aerospace Protectant on the TSX's "leather." The coating on it enables you to use products like this vs. dedicated leather cleaners. Provides a nice clean, matte finish--I'm a fan.

How to tell if leather is coated? Put a drop or two of water on a flat part of the seat. If it absorbs, it's uncoated, if the bead of water just sits there, its coated.

Carry an big (60"x30") old towel in the trunk. After each workout, drape it over your seat, problem solved.

Oh, and wash the towel every couple of weeks...!

Not if you clean it regularly.

I do 3 to 5 days a week at the james. I like to workout in long pants and a regular tshirt in the spring/summer and long pants/long shirt in the fall winter. Never had a problem with sweat personally. As most everyone has stated, a towel is probably your best bet. got an old beach towel handy?

Me too! I used to be thin and get sweat all over my seats. Now I'm growing a gut & my seats are clean.

Hmmm... maybe I do want the former...

Having a 1-year old baby doesn't help, that's for sure!

Your seats are clean with a 1-year old baby? By next year, they'll be covered with food crumbs, dried juice/milk, etc.

Good advice there. Keep the back of your seat covered with a towel. But make sure you don't wrap up the side airbags.

For existing sweat, take a damp cotton towel, and wipe down your seat like you would gym equipment. Then use a leather conditioner and go over it. Reapply the leather conditioner every month or so.
