stock subwoofer

My dealer told me My new 2006 had a "hidden" stock sub woofer in the trunk .
The acura web site says nothing about this.
Am I a dumbass for believing him or am I a dumbass for not being ably to find it?

Tell him he has confused the TSX with the RSX. Ask him to reduce his price by $1000 for his error.

Subwoofer doesn't come as an option on the 04,05 or the 06 TSX nor does it come standard with the TSX. If your dealer tells you there's a subwoofer than he is lying to you. Obviously he is trying to sell you the car and he'll tell you what you want to hear.

I'm fairly sure the two 6x9s (that also came on the '04 and '05 models) are the stock subwoofers.

6x9 are midranges they're not true subwoofers. They do put out some thump, but can't put any sound lower than 20 hertz which is where the Subwoofers comes in.

True, but they are what passes for subs in the TSX. If I'm not mistaken, the highs and mids are rolled off on these 6x9's.

While these 6x9 drivers may not be subwoofer in the strictest sense -- they are certainly not midranges. And subwoofers don't "come in" at 20hz either -- more like 50-80hz (some say even higher). A 6x9 driver has about the same cone area as an 8-inch driver, so a pair can (in theory) move a decent amount of air. I admit these stock 6x9s are nothing fancy, but they filling the role of the subwoofer. I don't think they are as bad as many people try to make them out to be -- heck they are a lot better than the subwoofer in the RSX-S!

Um if you count 6x9 as subwoofer than you have no clue what you're talking about. Ask anybody and they'll tell you it's not a Subwoofer. Yes they can get as low as 28 hertz. If you read my post correctly i mentioned that it's not a true subwoofer. 6x9 is not considered as a subwoofer i don't know where you get your information from.

50-80hz that must be some cheap Subs because real subs can get as low as 10hz most of us can't hear anything lower than 18hz.

As I said before 6x9s have the same cone area as a 8-inch driver. And two 8-inch drivers have the same cone area as a 12-inch driver. So two 6x9s can (in theory) move as much air as a single 12-inch driver. Are you saying a 12-inch driver cannot be a subwoofer?

I took your "come in" phrase as taking over. So I was saying a subwoofer starts taking over (from the other drivers/speakers) at somewhere between 50-80hz and plays down 20hz and below. The following is a 6x9 -- so I guess according to you it cannot be a subwoofer:

Technically no. As i said before two 6x9 cannot put the same SPL as a single subwoofer can. If you want to keep your 6x9 as a sub that's fine but you won't get the same sound a true subwoofer can imo. We don't add two speakers to get the same cone area that's how it works.

That's funny isn't that Boston NEW Sub? They are not 6x9 They're SUBWOOFER. I just looked at their site and it's under the SUBWOOFER section doesn't count as 6x9.

As far as I can see, that's also a 6x9". At any rate, your playing on words is pretty retard.

It is not look under Subwoofer on Boston Acoustic Site. The 6x9 are under Full Range speakers. Coming from a Mod i expect more neutral view than calling someone a retard

I really don't give a fuck. Just accept the principle that 6x9s can also play the role of a sub and let's call it a day.

This thread has answered the poster's question and these 2 are taking this thread to a new low.

The only way a 6x9 could be classified as a true sub is if the speaker is not a multiple transducer design (2-way 3-way) and the output frequency is below 125hz. That is what I would consider a sub. Anything made for 125hz - 2500hz would be catagorized as a mid bass or mid freq driver even if it were a 10, 12, or a 15. At my job we use Dynachord alpha speakers which is one of the best brands of speakers for clubs and concerts. The transducers for the mids are 12" woofers, so you really cant say that a 12 is a sub and a 6x9 is not. The transducers are made for what they are made for, nothing more and nothing less.

either way, the dealer's the biggest retard for saying there's a hidden sub in the trunk.

The Dimensions of the Boston Sub isn't 6x9 it is 14 and a quarter and 11 and seven eights. So it's not classified as a 6x9 it's a Sub.. The designed is to get more bang for less the cubic feet needed to produce the sound as a 10" Sub.
