Sportshift Users...Do You Ever Forget to Shift Up?

Naptown reporting...

I was turning about 6k RPMs without even knowing it, it was so quiet inside.

Well, that and I was a bit "distracted".

I'm fine when I'm by myself in the car, but I have someone next to me and I just totally forget I'm in SS.

Is it just me? I hear the engine whine in my WRX even with the windows and stereo up. Maybe it's because I have the clutch to deal with if I even want to go, or maybe this is my first SS car, but I just forget.

It's just way too quiet.

It took off pretty nicely, though, but I'm going to have to have my windows down and stereo off when I'm in SS so I can hear the engine.

That or no girls in the front seat.

Naptown out....

I'd choose leaving the windows open and stereo off

I do this every now and again too, without anyone else in the car. Since it downshifts by itself, I'll be accelerating from a light and find that I'm at 6000 rpms and the car is in 1st gear.

It happens to me from time to time as well. I can no longer remember the number of times I've bounced off the rev limiter.

That's why most of the time when I shift from D to M, and the traffic does not allow me to have fun then I will shift it back to D in case I forgot to shift up.

The action of shift it from D to M, to me personally, it feel like you have your mask on and be prepare or ready for something fun (or maybe for wasting premium gas).

I can count on 2 fingers the number of times I've driven in D. I always use the SS so I don't usually forget to shift. I did drop it into fourth to pass a bunch of idiots and 2 miles later realized I was still in fourth.. The cars got some legs though, didn't even notice till I looked at the dash.

I forget sometimes, although I generally only use SS when I want to have fun. TSX is too upscale to be noisy...

I know people have commented on how (relatively) quiet the TSX is, but this was just one case where I think it's detrimental to the car. I'd like a little bit of feedback.

I guess I was just expecting some huge growl from a 4-cylinder when I pushed it.

The girls are staying up front.

How many girls do you pack into that front seat? Wouldn't it be better to spread them out a little.

I once did like swami; downshifted to 4th to pass someone and then realized a couple of miles later, when I glaced at the tach., that I was still in 4th. It made me feel foolish. Anyone looking would have probably seen my face blush.

When I first considered the TSX, I was very surprised at the tach. being on the left side of the speedometer. Now, it seems perfectly natural because you need the feedback from the tach. to monitor the gears and the shift points. The car is just too darn quite (and, I am not complaining -- I hate noise) to judge gears, and shift points, by sound alone. I am in SS 98 percent of the time.

Way to go Jim Holloman for the thread resurrection.

I sometimes forget I'm in SS while driving a relative's auto TL. Usually by 4k I realize the tranny's not shifting.

And with the TSX I've been known to get on the highway and not realize I was still in 5th until a few miles down the road. The engine is that smooth.
