Sportshift with Music cranked is a bad combo!
With my CD player crankin', I forgot I was in Sportshift mode the other day.
What an IDIOT! I sent the RPM's high enough in 1st gear to have the fuel cutoff thanks to the revlimiter. Never heard the engine screamin' due to Pete Yorn blaring.
So I am assuming the engineers have the revlimiter set to kick in before any damage can be done. However, I feel terrible for causing any potential problems. So far there seem to be no noticable ill effects.
What is the consensus on possible damage??
Thanks in advance . . . .

Don't know how you cannot notice it being in first during SS. Even when you let off and go back on it would be jumpy and boggy.
Don't think there'd be much damage, but just don't do it next time.
And FFS, turn your music down.

I never really noticed a problem being in sport shift and not hearing the engine, I guess I always felt by the sensitivity of the gas pedal that I'm in a lower gear than I desire... but I suppose under the right circumstances it can happen.
I wouldn't worry about bouncing off the rev limiter once in a while. If it was THAT dangerous they would but the limit lower. But I also wouldn't bounce off it every time you drive.

Let me help you!
You have an auto, so it's hard to do any damage. Now with a MT, you can mis-shift and send it past the rev limiter....now that would definitely be a screw up.

To the OP, for how long were you at fuel cutoff? How many miles do you have on the odometer? (i.e. brand new?)

Wow, that sounds crazy. In my Mazda3, whenever I don't SShift in time and I red line it, my car bounces and I *immediately* know I've mis-shifted...I guess the TSX doesn't have that "feature".

is fuel cut off engaging similar to plain-old running out of gas?
All my friends say running out of gas can mess up an engine...
I guess it would be stupid for Honda to make fuel cut off work like that...

No. In that situation you suck the crud that's sitting at the bottom of the tank into the engine, potentially plugging small passages or scratching machined surfaces. When the fuel cut off engages, it simply stops supplying gas to the cylinders. The engine produces no more acceleration and the car rapidly loses speed. Once the engine is below the cut off limit, fuel flow is restored. If you're still on the gas you'll very quickly hit the limit again and the process repeats. It's a jarring experience very adequately described as "bouncing" off the limiter.

Car has 22,000 miles and has driven perfectly since the incident so no worries.
Thanks!

I've never had this problem. You don't need to listen to the car's RPMs, you can feel them thru the pedals and steering wheel. I've never had my music up so loud that I couldn't feel my car ask for an upshift.

Really??? Then what's the fuel filter for?
To the OP: Good thing you don't drive a manual.
( I've done it too. SS + Loud Music - Attention = Rev Limiter. )

Still, you're better off just not running out of gas.
