Speedometer

I have a big problem with the speedometer. I wish the 65 mph is more at 12 o'clock thans 9 o'clock. The car run so smooth that I have received 2 tickets in 2 months in California (both going over 90). I am used to my civic where the 65 mph site up higher on the speedometer.

Maybe once you get used to this one you will drive civics like a golf cart.

I understand what you are saying but it is a lame excuse for speeding.

Note that there are numbers next to the lines on the instrument. Seriously, learn to read them or consider getting a new car, because Acura's probably not going to change them for you.

For some reason, I seem to scan the tach more than the speedo. I find it easier to monitor, don't know why. 70 mph is about equal to 3000 rpm in 6th. (Cruise control works good too, but not as fun of course.)

Speedometer

Same here... I look at the tach more than the speedometer. I usually shift at 3000 rpm. But when the windows are all closed and the stereo's volume's at 30... sometimes you just dont notice.

Using this method with the AT, you need to factor in whether the torque converter is locked or not.

I expect this aspect of the speedo will change at some point. Having 0 at the "6-oclock" position is ergnomically unfriendly IMHO.

I dunno about having a BIG problem with the orientation of the speedometer. It took me about 5 minutes to get used to it. The speedomer and odometer point straight down at 0. If the speedo was more "balanced" then 80mph would be at the "top" (because the speedo range is 0 - 160) and you would still get tickets.

I've grown to like the 6 o'clock start position a lot, and I love the gauges in general -- they're really unique. If anything, I'd like the speedo to go up to only 140MPH, which would spread MPH interval marks out a bit. Sure, a few guys have claimed to take their TSX a bit over 140, but at that point, knowing your exact speed is the least of your worries

I think the gauges are pretty slick. When the car is off, all the needles are pointing down. The reason why the the speedometer reads 160 is because it's matches the rpm gauges tick for tick, 140 would make them uneven(of course this is all aesthetics)

I drive mostly highway, around 60-80 mph. Which makes the needle point right around the middle of the cluster. Sounds pretty ideal to me.

BTW. If the needle to pointed to the top, how the heck am I going to drive gangsta-style and see how fast I'm going.

I also had to adjust to the orientation of the speedometer reading. It took a few days, but I am good with it now.

My wife bought a ticket during her adjustment period

Well I kind-of agree with his point.. however after the first ticket i would have invested in a radar detector and been a bit more careful. I have a valentine 1 and try to be very careful where i speed and where i dont and I never speed around residential neighborhoods.. and i havent had a speeding ticket in years.

However you do have to admit that the TSX does pretty much beg you to go fast.. I mean it feels like its loafing a-long at 80

So I guess you guys would say the same if you owned one of these:

Pretty sure that is where Acura was coming from when they decided to do the 6 o'clock facing needles.
