Sold my car

No more '04 TSX Nav. I am getting married in the Fall, and I decided with all the plans the wife has for us and our money, it was now or never on my dream car. So, a month ago, I pulled the trigger.

2003, 36k miles.

For the record, I owed about $15.5k on the TSX, got roughly what I owed on the trade in, and the sales tax benefit of trading in the car essentially paid the tax and title and blah blah on the S2000. I had about 63k miles, and the car had some dings and a slightly torn lower front bumper (about a 1/2" vertical crack visible on the bottom edge), so I got dinged a bit on the trade in. Oh well. It wasn't a stellar deal, but I'm happier than a pig in sh!t. The TSX was a great car, but it was never what I really wanted. Interestingly enough, I turned 25 about 5 months ago, and my insurance was set to go from about $470/6 months to $316/6 months on the TSX. When I bought the S2000, it went to $460/6. So I guess 24+TSX=25+S2000. Weird.

With any luck, I'll be able to buy a 2.3T, SH-AWD TSX in about 5 years as a DD to go with my S2000....

Before trading it in:

In the wife's Liberty.

Actually, kids are at least 5 years off (I hope!!!), and by then both the Liberty and the S2000 will be paid for. I'll probably inherit the Liberty, and we will get her something new and nice (RX350? MDX?). The Liberty sucks, but it's good for snow, mountain bike hauling, and getting to the cabin up north in the snow to snowmobile. Maybe I'll talk her out of an SUV and into a sedan; she loved my Acura but she's only owned Jeeps herself.

BTW, if anyone is in Indiana looking for a red TSX, mine is the one at Hubler Acura for $20k, they can probably be talked down a bit. It's in good shape aside from the minor cosmetics. That car never let me down.

Her posing with the TSX for the last time:

Pretending to hate the new car:

She was pissed at first, but has started to love riding around in the S with the top down. I've let her start trying to drive it in the parking lot nearby (she can't drive stick), but it'll be a while before she gets out on the road.

Nice S2000! Any chance that the wife will get rid of her Liberty and stay in the Honda family and get a CRV?

No, we are done buying cars for a while.

Although, my BIL is about to sell his 100k-mile, '02 Lancer for about a grand. I'm trying to convince the wife that $1k Lancer > $500 snowtires.....

nice trade. any chance you could've bought 04~up models? i prefer little more displacement for better low end torque.

Probably. I always wanted the '02-03 for a variety of reasons, mostly just personal taste, so I was leaning towards those. I saw a couple higher-mileage '04s that I wasn't interested in. I also wasn't color flexible. I could've bought a private party car easily, but since I wanted to trade mine in (I couldn't sell mine and be without a car until I found the S2000 I wanted), it wasn't an option. COULD I have gotten an AP2 if it was what I wanted? Sure. But it wasn't worth the hassle for me.

When it's snowing, I will either carpool with her (my office is on the way to hers) or work from home via laptop. Otherwise, it's just a car, it won't melt in the snow/salt/muck. It's not idea, but S2000 in the winter > no S2000.

Also, I'll probably get snow tires, or I am considering that beater Lancer I mentioned. But in a few years, I'll take over the Liberty and the S2000 will be a third car.

Haha...we BOTH want the flat screen; hello Christmas (and wedding $$).

But the S2000 was in the 5 year plan, supposedly; we were going to pay off the TSX, and then buy the S2000 as a third car. However, we also are planning on buying a house in about 2 years, around the time the TSX was going to be paid off, and I could easily see "Well, if you didn't get your stupid sports car, we could get glorious house A, instead of POS house B!" I wasn't going to win that one (and really, shouldn't have - why live in a less nice place so you can have a sports car, that's pretty irresponsible and selfish, unless you are single). So I figured I'd get the sports car now, and lobby for a decent DD later.

S2K as a daily driver is IMO crazy. You'll likely get sick of driving it everyday in a few months and pick up a beater.

I'd like a beater for poor weather, but my commute is about 5 miles. And we have the Liberty for other trips.

I can suck it up for 10 miles a day; besides, I'm young and stupid still.

Not really. I only used it the first few weeks I'd go someplace new; since I've lived in IL about 9 months now, I've got the lay of the land down. On a couple of occasions, I've printed mapquest directions, but 99% of my driving is to work, my fiancee's place, the store, etc; I know where I'm going. What I DO miss is XM/6-disc/iPod connectivity. The XM and iPod are coming sooner or later, and a changer somewhere down the line, but until then I forgot how much XM sucks and I get tired of a single disc fast.

Gotta say.....if anyone gets to the point where navi becomes a true necessity for them, then they MUST turn in their "Man Card" immediately.

Awesome new car. Caranddriver rated it better then the Z4, TT, 350Z, and even the porsche!! I also must say its pretty funny how in the pic with the TSX your wife looks so happy and in the car she looks REALLY mad.

Congratulations...and two words of advice: 1st - Stop calling her "the wife". Its really no better than "the dog...the kids...the cat", etc. 2nd - Get some seat heaters put in before winter comes around. "The wife" won't be too happy with you when her bottom is freezing on the non-heated leather seats...or she may start looking at other guys in their warm comfy TSX in January/February. Good luck!
