So when do I get 22 MPG CITY?
So I ended up getting a 07 TSX. I have yet to do any highway driving with it so for now I have been driving 30 miles round trip from the office to home. However, whenever I look at the Avg. Fuel Readout it always shows a range of 15.5 - 15.9 MPG.
So my question is where is my 22 MPG CITY?
I don't floor it off stop lights, I don't speed more than 5-10 miles over the limit, and I don't brake hard when stopping. The only thing I can think of that is eating my gas mileage is that I have been using the air cond in auto mode set at 75 F.
Does the mileage go up over time or is the Avg. Fuel readout bunko?

That's right you'll be fine, the car is new and it will eventually get better mpg. I started out being at 21mpg and now I was getting 35mpg on my last tank. Even better than what the epa stated.

It will go up a little bit at each fill up...enough that you will notice. But I find the TSX doesn't have great fuel economy with strict-city driving...compared to other 4 bangers. I have got ~ 17 mpg city, 38 mpg hwy {calculated, not MID}...a HUGE range, go figure! Enjoy the car as it's a pleasure to drive at every opportunity. Cheers.

I agree. the car needs to break-in within 3,000 or so miles. good idea to change the oil too cause of metal shavings thats associated to break-ins. spoon magnetic drain plugs help alot.

The TSX really hates city driving. 3300lbs car + full fuel tank (one gallon of gas weights 6.2lbs *17.1 gallons) + your weight (175lbs) + junk in the trunk or passengers? (75-200lbs) = 3500-3800lbs TSX.
The I-4 has to work pretty hard to get the TSX up to speed at every stop light/sign just for you to brake and do it again.
- Try driving in SS mode and up shifting to 5th (or 6th gear) as fast as possible, the TSX tends to hold the lower gears longer at slower speeds (fuzzy logic 5AT).
- Try driving a different route to/from work to minimize your stops, the TSX gets the best mileage between 45-65 mph.
- Make sure you’re using 91 octane fuels, the TSX is design to perform the best at 91 (best balance of power and economy).
- Use you AC compared to driving with windows down, the wind resistance with windows down hurts your economy more than using the AC.
- Use synthetic motor oil like Mobil 1, my average MPG went up by .4-.7 when I switched.

i dont see how some of you guys can get 30+ mpg...i too usually get around 20-25 mpg and my car is at about 39K miles on it...
Maybe its my driving but even on highways when im just cruising at around 3K RPM, my car doesnt do too hot...
i avg about 320 miles per tank...that equates to about 60 bucks a week in gas....ouch!!!!

Let me help you!
With only city miles, I get maybe 220 miles per tank. On long highway trips (ie: vegas), I get about 440 miles per tank. Highest I've gotten was maybe 490 miles a tank, and that was a vegas trip at night with no traffic.
With a mixture of city and highway, I get around 330 or so.
Oh, and I never use the MID to calculate the average fuel...I do it with my navi's calculator function and my fuel's sale receipt

When i first got my 06 about 4 months ago i was only getting about 17-18 MPG with my daily commute of 2.8 miles to the train station. I now have 3800 miles on it and i am getting about 19-21 with that commute. I also took her on her first real highway trip since i bought her to the beach and back (about 1 hr, 48 miles or so through Jersey) and i filled up right before i left and got 33.5 MPG. So just relax, it will get better as you break in the car and you can get better with more highways.....

I just went to Luray Caverns in VA, and got 39MPH. I was VERY surprised. The TSX is truly a great all around car. I did not know I bought an economy car too!

your MPG will increase over time. when I first got my 07, I was getting garbage MPG readings too (I believe around 20MPG). But after break-in ~2k miles, my MPG improved significantly. It now hovers at 26 MPG mixed city and highway. If I am driving just highway I can get 30+ MPG easily.

i drive about 80% local/20% highway at best. i'm averaging 21.7 MPG right now and i've got around 3500 miles on the car since december 06. but i did take some longer road trips during that time frame (boston, PA, englishtown NJ which isn't that long).
but if you do it the old fashion way (checking your mileage and dividing it by gallons of gas) i think i got around 15 MPG which sucks. i think it probably had to do a lot with the wife blaring the AC the past few weeks since she's a few months pregnant and cannot tolerate any hot weather conditions, but what can you do. the wife gets what she wants.

it's a car-drive it
since I do mostly highway driving the mpg on my 06 has never been below 30. I average 32-33mpg but the best was almost 39 mpg. My car is now 7 month old (nov. 06) with 16,552 miles on it. love to drive it.

The warning in the manual is against changing the oil too early the first time, since the factory oil fill has some additives (molybdenum) to help with engine break-in.

Just for another data point:
I bought my 06 a few weeks ago with 14k miles on it. On the trip home from the dealership (Chicago --> Columbus), I got about 34MPG.
Over the past few tanks, I've averaged 28MPG in 70/30 highway driving. This includes some "fun" driving of my new toy.
