So it's 2007, why can't a car company figure out how to intigrate an ipod? I did.

you guys see that JIO logo on the first pic? If i remember correctly, that is the interface for an ipod docking station with built in media center... if I am assuming the right thing, this person probably bought that specific ipod docking station and connected to dom's tv video source and tapped it into the navi screen

thanks for the effort honduh chicken, that would make life a lot easier for a lot of folks on here.. I would assume that the hard(er) part of this installation would be tapping in for the power source for the docking station, and connection the audio out directly to the headunit
the video source should be a direct connection from the docking station to dom's unit via RCA

Yeah, that's nice man. I thought about doing the same thing for awhile. I ended up realizing that I don't use video enough, so I stuck with my Pioneer Ipod interface. Maybe I can start that project back up though.
I'm still looking for a dock that has a RF remote instead of infrared, so that I can hide the Ipod and dock. That way I don't have to hide it or take it out when I park.
Does yours have an Infrared remote?

No infrared remote, however DLO has a NEW dock out that does use RF, and has video output, unfortunately the menu's and song info isn't outputed all the song navigation is output to a display built into the remote that's about the size of an ipod go figure. lol.
I don't ever plan on using video for anything other than listing artists, playlists, songs etc, plus you get nice looking album art while the song's playing. The DLO interface is really smooth and you can change the colors, it's MUCH nicer than the OE Honda navi interface. I wonder why they didn't have a graphic designer go to town on it first? Windows 3.1 had a smoother GUI than honda's navi system.

^^ I'm thinking it does not support touch screen. You probably also need to be able to point the remote directly at the dock. My guess is that there is no IR blaster for it since the kit was probably made for home use.

Props for putting all the pieces together. This is exactly what I have been waiting for to do something about Ipod integration.
I don't think we will be seeing touch screen integration for a while guys. It will take a lot more hardware to integrate with that. Like a computer running itunes on it that can integrate with the touch screen. (or similar solution - It will just take custom hardware and software to interpret touchscreen and interface with it, which is what they are working on.)

back when i first got my tsx i installed a compute rin the trunk displayed on the navi screen. my next goal was to integrate touch screen functions. but soon learned that the tsx touch screen is only a "grid" touch screen with only about 100-200 squares that register the push. so it would be pretty limited as an interface for mouse/pc. so i used a small touch pad and IR remote credit card sized.

But to answer your question, I don't believe so but OP can confirm.

Honduh Chicken,
GREAT JOB! It was well worth the wait. The instructions are very clear and I am looking forward to do this on my newly dealer e-traded '08 TSX in a couple weeks

Good catch, I'll fix that type tomorrow. Thanks!

That is the most impressive right up I have ever seen for anything - car related and not. You should work for Nasa.
I know I would break something expensive if I actually tried it though. You are spot-on with the message to Honda. Why not???

They need to come up with a more universal way to control mass storage mp3 players. I prefer the Zune to the iPod, and would hate for Honda to force my hand when choosing between mp3 players. The iPod is proprietary to Apple and I'm glad my car doesn't have a metaphorical seat reserved for Steve Jobs. Until there are more choices I can't say I mind the lack of any mp3 player support.
On the other hand the CD player should be able to read mp3 CDs. They are definately behind on that one. If you could load 6 mp3 CDs that would make for a whole lot of music without the need to carry around a seperate music device all the time.

Oh, sure, I mean to say that I don't expect Honda to bend over backwards to connect with a proprietary device although some automakers will.
I hate Apple because they insist that everybody conform to their minimalist ethic and aesthetic. They are not friends of individuality.

Holy hell thats a whole lot of messing around to get a little more functionality than a DICE or usaspec unit.. except no touchscreen control?
Not for me, but i can't complain on the write-up. Great work on the explanation.
I've still yet to see a feature list of sorts to explain exactly what this gives you.. From the images i gather its remote control based [ew], but plays video as well as music, and includes all menus needed to navigate properly.. am i missing anything? Since i don't know for sure all that follows is based on assumption.
When i got my TSX i thought i'd use something like this, but in all reality i just plug in my ipod to my usaspec and hit skip a few times til i see a song i like. I don't use video at all, and i surely wouldn't while driving, so thats no use to me.. the only thing i lack is the song title displayed, which can be achieved by using a dice unit.
I guess the question is.. is this all really worth it to play videos? You lose the touchscreen [assumed] and you cant watch videos while driving anyways [illegal if in view of driver at least in michigan - not to mention dangerous], and i'd surely lose the remote...
Looking at all of this i can't help but think im missing a huge part of the story here.
Like i said, great write-up though. and PDF is so much more appreciated than a 50 page forum thread with randomly missing photo links. I especially enjoyed the comment about if honda doesn't think people want this, you would send them the pdf's server logs.. just out of curiosity, whats it up to already?
