So I'm @ my wife's softball game and well you can guess what happened...

So, yeah, some nails a foulball and bam! It hits my "C" pillar. Nice dent about 3/4 the way up on the drivers side.

So before I call in a dent doctor, has anyone tried to fix a dent with dry ice? I have heard of people using dry ice and then removing it and the dent pops back to the original form. Has anyone tried it or heard of someone doing it????

Thanks all.

I've heard of some body shops that will use dry ice to repair slight hail damage, but I'm not quite sure about how well it will work on a dent of your size. When they use the dry ice, they simply place it over the dent and place a metallic tarp or blanket over it for a few minutes. For the low cost of dry ice, I'd at least try it out before you go to a paintless dent repair guy and fork out way more cash for possibly the same result. Good luck, and be sure to post the outcome!

I've tried the whole Dry Ice thing on small dents on my brother's car, and had no luck with it. It might work with medium sized dents, but the small hail dents, I've had no luck.

Up here in AK most of our super markets carry dry ice, but that's because a bunch of people are sending fresh crab and salmon down to the lower 48 this time of year. You'd probably save yourself some time by digging out a phone book and calling a few places to see if they carry it rather than drive all over town looking for it. If your super markets don't carry it, then a random seafood store will for sure.

Yeah, I'll check out Walmart or an ice cream shop first, and than I still can't find it
I will look in a phone book and call places.

I think it will have better results if the surface is hot before you apply the cold substances weather it be dry ice or canned air.

I also found this on that site:

DENTS & HAIL DAMAGE
Dry Ice will condense metal and thereby shrink small dents on your car. Place the Dry Ice on the inside of the dent if possible. Use heavy gloves and press flat sheet against dent. If it is not possible to get on the inside concave part of the dent, then using heavy gloves hold the Dry Ice so a corner can fit into the bottom lowest part of the cratered dent. Hold the Dry Ice until the metal is frosted at least 2 inches beyond the dent. Let the metal warm up (in the sun is the best) and repeat the procedure. Sometimes the dent will pop out perfectly. More often it will not be possible to get a flat smooth finish, but the dent will be reduced noticeably. Creased metal will still show the crease line but the dent will be far less pronounced. I have not seen any paint damage, but I'm sure if the paint is not strongly adhered, it could peel away.

you can get dry Ice and any industrial supply store. It's used alot in the welding industry, so welding gas suppliers will have it for sure. It's about 8 bucks a pound.

Well I tried the hairdryer and the duster/carbon dioxide. Didn't really work very well. I heated and cooled it 4 times and didn't see much difference.

Find a paintless dent remover guy. Those people can work miracles sometimes. The guy took 3 dents out of my car and i can't tell that they were ever there.

I agree. Just pay-up and get a professional to fix it. You'll prbably just fudge-up the paint job and lose the skin on your fingers from the dry-ice.

Nice avatar BTW!

Although, i'd really like to see someone try the dry-ice thing and settle this "it works"/"It's BS" deal once and for all!
