Sirius Installation
Sirius Installation
Hi,
I know a 2007 TSX comes with XM but I am a big Sirius fan and will be adding it asap. My questions are can I have both in my car during the 3 month free XM trial? If so, is there a way to install the Sirius with the AUX input in the glove box or should I use the FM transmitter until the free XM trial is up? I think I would want to install Sirius directly to the stereo because I have heard complaints with fm transmitters. But would I have to wait for the XM trial to end or just say no thanks to the XM trial.
I think a small Sirius would fit in the glove box under the stereo fine. Or since there is an AUX in the arm rest, I could fit it there. I really want it out of sight.
Any thoughts?????

I had a custumer who fit a small sirius unit in the small pocket in front of the shifter in a 06 TL, and that pocket is smaller that the TSX.
you should be able to have a small unit installed in that pocket and still have the door close, then just find the wire that goes into the AUX jack in the armrest and hook into that. i agree FM transmitters blow!

I have my Sirius Starbase in the storage compartment just below the stereo. It is a sweet install. I can close the lid perfectly to keep the unit out of eyesight and I can also keep the remote right next to the unit.
As the people above said, yes, many people have installed sirius receivers with good results, hard wired.
Also, you can have both XM and Sirius at the same time. Some people even subscribe to both. They are completely independent systems.

I am a big Sirius guy as well, way more college sports, which is why I choose it. You cannot have them both from what I understand, unless you want to use the FM for one and the aux for the other. My wifes car came with the XM trial, but we have it on our directv, so we pulled her xm box and put in a sirius in place...now if we could just change that XM button to say Sirius
The good news for Sirius fans, there are a ton of veh manufac. that are moving over from XM...not sure if its the overall cost involved or if its because everyone wants Howard
Thanks for all of the help.
Just to clarify, if I want both Sirius and XM at the same time and I do NOT want to use an fm transmiiter, I have to use the Aux in the glove box?????? But if I dont want to have both at the same time I can use the AUX in the stereo to hard wire the Sirius receiver???? I am asuming I can hard wire Sirius directly to the stereo. Just like I have in my car now.

No, you cannot replace your factory XM (inside the head unit) with Sirius. You do need the external unit, but I think you know that. If you want Sirius but no XM, you will still have XM on. Nothing you can do about that. Just don't pay the subscription and all you'll get is the 3 free channels.
Since you have an aux in your armrest, you can add Sirius in 2 ways, both of which are "hard wired". You do not have to, and should not use an FM transmitter. Everyone knows they are of sub-par audio quality. Anyway, 2 easy ways to hard wire it are:
1. Splice into the aux connection from the armrest. This isn't too hard to do, but you'll need the ETM and someone who knows how to solder a good connection and not get you any interference on it. You will also need to keep a cable plugged into the aux jack or jumper the connection that looks for it, as the stock AUX is not enabled to be selected on the radio when it senses that nothing is connected to it.
2. Use a 'box' style adapter like soundgate or usa spec. This will add a whole new input to your factory radio, labelled CD-C, and allow you to plug-n-play with RCA cables. This is super easy and anyone can do it, but the units cost around $120-$150.

At a $7 Billion savings in the combined entity, I'm not sure the price will go up. Oh hell, who am I kidding, of course it will.
My fear is that Clear Channel, affiliated with Sony and thus XM, will have influence over Sirius. I am Republican, but don't fk with Freedom of Speech or my Right to Bear Arms.

My company buys a lot of other companies and let's just say it takes money to make that work. Sirius seems to be financially better, but if Sirius does what most companies do and get rid of dead weight (over-lapping resources in PC terms), then it is actually possible to see a decrease in price. Doubtful though to show profits, post-merger, in the first few years.

since xm is already in the tsx
if the merger goes through and i already have a sirius portable stlletto with lifetime membership is it still worth it to get additial hookup for the car?
i think it's something like half off on a second receiver activation.
i might just keep lugging my fm transmitter around like i'm doing now.
the cost of convenience!! would be nice though
then again i'm recording stern at 3am to listen while on my 2hr commute and reception in my driving area isn't that great now. with the car antenna is it much better?
i might still be forced to using the fm transmitter and timeshifitng anyway.

Having read enough of the XM-vs-Sirius threads, I know there are a lot of consumers who will gain from this merger. (I'm ready to jump right in, and have been hoping for this merger since I found out that Sirius has the exclusive NFL rights). On the other hand, it will put satellite radio into the realm of cable service: A single vendor, s***** customer service, and little pressure to keep prices low.
I have sirius installed in that empty compartment, works great, and it looks great. As you can see, 3 wires, one is hardwired to the ignition, one goes up and is the antena that is mounted on the inside of dash, on passengers side, in the very corner (great reception btw) and the 3rd wire you see goes under the console up into the glovebox, and into the Aux in. As you can see, I bought a splitter, so I can have both the Ipod and sirius going in the Aux input.
