Side view Mirror heating.

Is it fine if I keep the side view mirrors heated all the time?

2 reasons to ask this question.
(1) here in Seattle the sideview mirrors are wet more or less all the time.
(2) I tend to forget turning off the mirror heating switch. (I fear this might damage the mirrors)

Any ideas?

05's...

But I doubt heated mirrors will damage your parts. BTW, what are heated mirrors good for other than melting ice?

Never letting ignorance stand in the way of commenting. <g> I'd suspect like the rear window defrost that the side mirror heating elements are on a timer or at least reset to off when the ignition is turned off.

Anyone with an '05 owner's manual care to give us the answer?

the mirror heating button for the canadian 04 model does not reset when the ignition is turned off nor is there a timer.
the button is just pressed down and a little orange light is shown.

1. I doubt water will affect the heating portion of the mirror
2. It would take a long time for the heater being on to make any diff in its longevity

The mirror heating switch is the same here in europe; unfortunatly no timer. I tend to forget to switch it off sometimes as well. I'm with Biker; Shouldn't do any damage...

I think the only neg effects would be that the resistive material would not last as long as what the Acura engineers estimated when designing the thing.

However, coming from an engineering background, I'm sure they accounted for people such as yourself.

Set it and .... forget it.

All I can tell you is that a number of us VW Passat owners learned the hard way that leaving the mirror heating elements on all the time caused the elements to burn out in short order. Perhaps the Acura design is different but I would not take the chance.

I forget about the heated mirrors most of the time. Never have occasion to need them, really. I noticed the other day that they were on - they could have been that way for months, since I never think about them.

We just got our 05 on the 17'th and thumbing through the manual, IIRC, the switch is a on/off only, no timer. So it's on with your ignition all the time if you have it set that way. No idea of the ill effects on leaving them on.

Dumb Question....do the heaters have a separate switch? Where is it? Next to the VSA Switch? Or does it piggyback onto some other system (rear defrost)? Can anyone post a picture? And how much $$$ to put a set onto my '04 (that turned 15k miles today)?

Along with the statement above...

Why aren't they tied into the rear defrost like 90% of the rest of the industry? Then they turn off on the same time interval.
