Should I jump on this?

A dealer quoted me an out the door price of $29,975 (includes NJ 6% and fees) for a '05 CG/Ebony Navi with all season mats and fog lights. Does this sound good? Thanks

Well, run the numbers:

Figure fees are ~$100
Tax on the remainder is $1791
Fogs can be had for $300 + install (H and A.com)
All seasons are $110
Destination is $570
This means the net car price is ~$27104
Dealer invoice is $26423
Dealer profit = $1231.

Not too bad. You might want to get him to throw in the trunk tray while you're at it. Sounds like a good deal for a much in demand car.

However, make sure the labor associated with the fog light install is included in the price as a true "out-the-door".

BTW, as a comparison, Edmunds TMV: MSRP.

Besides taxes and destination, is there any way to figure out how much you should expect to pay for fees (registration, license, etc)? I know it varies by region. but by alot? Are we talking like $200 total or $2000 total?

Most places the reg/title/plate should be less than $200. This is one places folks never question the numbers but it's really easy to look up - just go the DMV web site of your state and it should list the fees. In some states it's illigal for the dealer to mark up these numbers.

Jump on it.

It's a good deal, however if it's from Park Ave, stay away.

Check the number of miles and for any defects on the car. I do hope the interest rate or finance charges won't offset the quote.

Good Luck!

you should be able to negotiate and get the price down $500-$1,000 more.

Uh oh.. why should I stay away? The quote actually is from Park Ave Acura. When I asked him to break down the figure so I can see how it amounts to the $29,975 number, he did not want to. This was all done over e-mail. He says I can just call him and put down a $500 deposit via credit card and he will order the car. Is there a better dealer in NJ i should try?

Their reputation for service is horrible.

Try Open road of Acura Wayne and Acura of Manhattan.

The deal sounds pretty good. But if the salesman doesn't want to break the numbers down for you...RUN. I just bought a TSX over the phone this weekend. The numbers were clear before I forked over any $$$. Our new car was built yesterday.

Hi NJTSXMan,

I haven't spoken with anyone at Park Ave, just sat in the TSX and the TL there to check them out one day at lunchtime, but I did do a test drive at Ramsey Acura also on Rt 17 south, in duuhh Ramsey :-)

I am not ready to get the car yet, in any case I intend to lease, so I didn't ask for a breakdown but was quoted ard 420 plus 1450 total out of pocket for a TSX with Navi. I think I'm gonna go with a TL when I am ready (in case any TL minded people are reading the TSX forum they quoted for one w/navi 480 plus 1450 out of pocket) incldg tax. Again this was without counter offering since I was not ready. In anycase basis leasing I don't think you can do much better because Honda Finance has set a money factor for January at equivalent to 5.8 pct. It makes a big difference. I just paid a MF on my 04 Murano wch is equivalent to 0.5 pct.

I did not ask the dealer about not being able to improve on the money factor yet. But according to the moderator of the lease forum at Edmunds the dealer has no say when using Honda Finance.

If you want the salesmen's name please PM me. Maybe if you mention my (real) name we both get a better deal?

Dumont
