I'm not sure how, but it is indeed detachable. Some people have theirs out already so you could try a quick search.

That is correct!

What type of knob you looking to replace it with? I want to replace it also but have yet to find one that I think looks right. Someone hear has a momo one, but I think it look awkward because its looks like a stick with a ball on it

Not likely. I know I was able to undo the manual shift knobs much more easily though.

Just grab tight and turn the whore. You won't damage it but it takes some force to unscrew it.
