Scared for my TSX

I just took my car to the stealership today for its oil change. The dealer has a complimintary shuttle service, so I opted to get a ride back to work. So I am standing outside waiting for someone to pick me up, and I hear a loud bang right beside me. I looked over at the garage door to the service bay I was standing beside, and notice a huge bulge at the bottom of the door. I stood there perplexed for a couple seconds, until I saw someone walk up to the door an open it. At this moment, I realized what happened. The mechanic was pulling someone's Audi TT (it's an Acura and Audi dealer) out of the garage, and forgot to open the door so he drove right into it! After opening the door, he gets back in the car and drives it off like nothing happened. He didn't even check the front of the car at all! Meanwhile, my TSX is already in the garage queued up for service. I had to get back to work, so I couldn't stick around to watch over them. I will definatly be checking out my car's body VERY closely when I pick it back up after seeing that! yikes... I may not be going back there for service again.

The upside is, I got a ride back to work in a new RDX. I only have one word to describe it, bumpy. To bad I didn't get to drive it.

Holy Shyte! It really scares me when I think of the aweful things that they can do to my car when I leave her in their un-caring hands. Make sure u do a 360 * 2 on your car when you get it back!

It's definitely scary leaving your car in someone else's hands. Just think how you'd feel if a tech took your car out for a test drive and got into an accident! Luckily, I haven't had any problems like that.

That's difficult when you live in an apartment. I wish we had one of those garages around here where you can rent a bay for a few hours and do you own work to your car.

Don't know if you have a garage stall or whatever at your apartment. When I was an apartment dweller, I changed my own oil. If you have a shallow enough pan, you don't need a jack or stands or any of that. Just crawl under to the point where you can reach the little plastic cover, remove that and then the drain bolt with a pan under your hand, drain, replace the bolt. You can get at the filter from the top of the engine, same thing -- spin it off with the pan positioned under it, spin the new one on. Fill the engine with oil and you're done. Takes me about 20-25 minutes, not including washing my hands, etc. Honestly, except for the weather there's nothing preventing you from doing the same thing in a parking lot some sunny Saturday morning.

I'll never ever take my car to someone to change the oil. Too many stories about scuffs/scratches/dirty hand prints/etc., or them leaving the drain bolt loose, or the filler cap off (my dad's RSX), or tightening the filter to 600 lb-ft.

I never leave my car at the dealer. I wait for my car. I do not trust them after they damaged my aspec bumper and my rear bumper. Then you have to be careful of the sandpaper car wash they do. I never let them wash my car.

I had my car in for a recall (not my TSX) and the dealership called to say it was ready, I went to pick it up and was met by the GM and part owner...which is never a good thing to see mind you. Apparently they parked my car when it was done next to receiving because the customer lot was full, and a delivery truck crushed the front end of my car. I'll spare you all the other details, but I do not trust ANY dealerships, because somewhere at that dealer, there's someone making min. wage that hates there job and thats the unknown variable.

one of the people I know used to take the cars and did donut in the parking lot when there was no one watching. sometimes he told me that he needed to take the cars for a race (pedal to the metal) in the freeway to reset the computer.

Haha Mr. West I remember you telling the group about that during the Cruise meet. Did they ever repair that?

I don't know about the rest of you, but my dealership takes tip top care of my car. Taking my car in on Monday for second service.

Well, they replaced the bumper and repainted the vehicle. Problem is, the front lip and bumper was a M3 aftermarket and they replaced it with the stock one, didnt replace the driving lights, they actually didnt replace them they were just gone. They brought the car to my work and dropped it off and picked up the loaner, so when I went out and inspected it, I was crazy pissed. I assumed they would replace like for like not replace a $1000 dollar bumper with a stock one. The service manager, was of course, gone when I called...dude, I my voice was shaking I was so pissed.

The next morning, I drove it there and had them page the GM showed him the car and then showed him the bumper and the missing lights. He assured me they only replaced it stock because they didnt have the lights or the bumper at the dealer. It took 3 weeks to get the same bumper and the lights, which up and vanished like a fart in the wind. He said a sercvice tech must have thrown them out...they were HIDs, so Im thinking a service tech has them on his car right now. I guess I dont learn the first time, cause I was lured back by their ass kissing and had them change the oil (which they do for free) and when they put it up on the lift, the tech put a hole in my side skirt...this I actually saw as I made sure to look at the vehicle before driving off. The guy wouldnt fess up to it, and the service manager was almost convinced it happened before I came in, but the guy found a trash can with the broken pieces in it they guy I suppose was trying to hide. They fired him in front of me for lying to them infront of a customer, but this didnt help me get a new skirt..as I drove for another 3 or so weeks with just clips on my passenger side. I never took it back after that. So thats why I say, theres always someone that doesnt like their job or is not good at it working everyyyywhere, so be wary.

Whew...Im tired now

For those living in an apartment, I've done oil changes in the underground car park. As ong as you don't spill the oil, it's easy.

the only person that I trust my TSX with is me. I remember taking in my car to the dealership for the scheduled service and when I got back home to check the oil, it turned out to be overfilled. from then on, i've done all the required service by myself.

Well, it turns out they avoided crashing my car into a garage door. The car looked fine when I picked it up, except for all the water spots. I forgot to ask them not to wash it.

I take this to mean that he was not backing out of the garage but going forward. If he didn't see that the garage door was closed, I hope that he does not drive on public roads...maybe he doesn't even have a license. This is one person that is a danger to society and should be put to death before he kills innocent victims.

People that don't have a garage to change oil may find those suction oil extractor devices useful. Basically, you insert a tube down the dipstick and pump the oil out from the pan.

I took one of my accords to the local honda dealership for a recall, and I saw one of the mechanics drive one of the vehicles so fast that the rear tire went up a tall curb and fell back again. Oh yeah, the recall was to replace the oil seal, and they ended up putting the cam back in wrong or something. Stupid brother wanted to drive it home, and didn't say anything about the car having problems moving. When I found out, I brought it back to the dealer, and he wanted me to pay for him to even look at it. Eventually I got him to have a mechanic test drive the car, and the mechanic said there was nothing wrong with it. After some more argument, they finally agreed to take a look at it for free and when they saw what had happened, they finally admitted that they made a mistake.

The only other damages I've ever seen done to a car by dorks working:
1. My TSX....the alignment guy at Just Tires got onto the alignment rack wrong, which tore my mud flap. I saw him notice it, and yet he just forced the car up. He then came up to me to give me a courtesy notice that they had it had been torn before they got it and that I should have it fixed..
2. Pepboys' alignment guy gave my accord a nice huge gash on my front lip.
3. I drove to san francisco for a convention, and parked in a hotel's parking garage which charges the guests for parking there. As I approached the exit, a valet was turning to get out but ended up hitting the booth with the car. The guy in the booth didn't make me pay for the parking, I guess to hope that I don't say anything...

I thought those doesn't work with the TSX because the dipstick goes through an oil gallery. Older B series engines had the dip stick directly down to the sump, so the oil extractor things worked.

Stupid people like that, and the people that inch too far forward are the reasons that my license plate will always be front mounted on my car (well, that and its the law here in VA). As much as it pains me to see the front license plate so oddly sticking out from the slanted front bumper, i'm sure that sucker has saved me from so many bumps and scratches
