Roof Rack recomendation

Does anybody have a roof rack and recommend it because it's easy to install and looks good?

You need to buy my 4 year old Yakima roof rack + 2 bike trays for half price.

I have the Yakima setup. I think it looks sweet on the car (with the fairing installed of course). As for easy to install, I can have the rack on the car with 2 bikes on top in about 10 minutes.

As a former Bike shop manager and salesman, I would HIGHLY recommend YAKIMA over the THULE brand racks. The Yakima racks are manufactured to a greater quality than the Thule racks.

HAWK77, do you remove your roof rack everytime you are not using it and has it discolored the paint where it is in contact with the roof.

The fairing is a front wind deflector to reduce noise and increase fuel economy. Much like: http://www.gull.us/auto/rack/

Another company that always seems left out of the roof rack comparos, but is more known for trunk racks is Saris

I agree with Yakima. I have used one in the past. They are top notch. I am aware of the Thule as well but most people seem to go with the Yakima.

I have used both, but went with the Yakima this time. The Yakima goes on and off more easily, with a single lever, while the Thule uses a screw knob to tighten things up. Also, the Yakima makes it more easily to set up the bar lengths ONCE and leave them set for the vehicle, while the Thule's tend to move around a bit when the rack isn't latched down.

I have usually trimmed the crossbars so they are a very close fit rather than the standard length which tends to overhang quite a bit on some cars. On the TSX the fit is pretty close with the standard Yakima bars. The Thule bars are 2" longer.

Figure out what you want, Thule, Yakima, etc.

I was very serious about selling mine. It's older, has some wear, but all parts combined you'd pay half of what it normally is new. This goes for most used ones...maybe even around your area.

Thanks for the offer, but I still want to look around, see whats best, and determine if I'll get enough use from it. Post it up, I'm sure someone close to your area will want it. How much was the total price 4 years ago?

I only put my rack on the car when I'm using it. It significantly takes away from your gas mileage if you leave it on the car. I drive 100 miles a day so it's best for me to take it off when I'm done with it.

As for the paint I haven't had any problems as of yet. Usually before I put the rack on I clean the roof where the feet touch the paint. That way if there is any dirt on the roof, the rack won't grind it into the paint.

Firgure the following (roughly)

Fairing = $50
Q Towers = $100
Bars = $50
Clips = $50
Bike Trays (x2) = $125
Locks (x6) = $50

Total (new) = ~$425

I didn't buy it new, but used. I think I paid around $275-$300 shipped.

If you're only putting the rack on when it is in use, I'd actually skip the fairing. The fairing makes a significant difference when the rack is on the car permenanently, but makes a very little difference at all once you've got any attachments or other equipment on top as well. I used to use a fairing on an old car that had a rack on it pretty much all the time. I'd just remove the attachments when they weren't in use but leave the crossbars and fairings in position.

I believe there was a thread on here about someone who had bought a rack from honda for the current generation accord and that fit the TSX perfectly.

Alin10123 is right about the thred for the current accord rack. I saw the thred where a guy used a rack setup for the new accord and he said it fit perfectly. The picture he posted was pretty blurry though, so you couldn't see clearly what it looked like. Maybe he posted a better pic by now. Good luck! Take a pic for us when you get it. I will be in the market myself next snowboard season.

I have Thule rack. I don't have it on my TSX because I don't want to mess with the aero design of the body. Besides it just looks so sexy without the rack. I guess that is not an option with bikes or more than two boards.

I've got a Yakima rack on my car. I've been very happy with it. It installs securely to the roof in minutes and actually makes the car look badass too. I think the Yakima rack is nicer looking, and fits better than the Thule. Just my 2 cents.

Here is my 3 week old Yakima with the Sprocket Rocket. I will be getting another Sprocket Rocket for the fiances bike!

I was looking for some close up pics before I purchased mine but could not find any. So I took a few pics to show how it fits on the TSX!

And the big guy!
