Hey everyone, this is my first time posting and i have a question regarding the fitment of some rims. I currently just ordered some Tork Imagine rims,18x8, +40 offset, gloss black with a chrome lip, wrapped in some 225/45/18 toyo proxes t1r tires. My car is lowered to a two finger gap in the rear, and a 3 finger gap in the front.
I was wondering if there will be any rubbing issues with the rims and tires i got?

this is horrible response but the truth is i dont know. i bought my 06 tsx used for $25,000 with 9,000 miles on it. when i was buying it, the sales person told me that the previous owner had put after market springs into the car. so i have no clue what im running right now. im planning on getting some tein ss coilovers

I can give a pretty good idea:
I came up with this:
OEM is a 7 inch wide rim with a +55 offset.
You want a 8 inch rim with a +40 offset.
Therefore, the rims will stick out about 28mm more than they are currently.
That translates to about 1.1 inches.
That's on the outside of the rim.
On the inside of the rim you'll be gaining 2mm of clearance.

Anything bigger than a +/-2% difference is considered a mismatch and should be avoided if possible. Speedometer, odometer, and VSA/ABS systems can be affected by mismatched tire sizes.
Generally speaking, when you reduce the tire's sidewall to compensate for a larger wheel, the ride quality will diminish. Some may argue that point but that's why I said generally.
The less rubber that is between the wheel and the road, the more stress is being applied to the wheel itself. Watch out for potholes if you reduce the sidewall of your tire. A forged rim is generally going to be stronger and resist bending better than a cast wheel.

Interesting, but I think not completely on point. The offset difference (amount a wheel/tire will set in or out compared to OE) is simple math: take the difference in wheel width (1"), difference in offset (15MM), and just add: 1/2" + 15 MM (1/2" because half of the width difference will be on the inside). Since in this case the offset difference will push the tire out, the tire/wheel will stick out another 1/2" + 15MM.
I think you'll find that the 2% factor isn't terribly important here except for the speedometer. Since all 4 tires will be the same size, I'm pretty sure that all of the "save your bacon" gizmo's (traction control, ABS, stability control) function on the difference in rotational speed of each wheel relative to the others and won't be effected. That said, although the 225/45x18 is on the big side, it's the recommended Plus One size by Discount Tire.
Plus, I have 8" wheels with 45 offset on my TSX and I wouldn't want them any further out.

Yes its gonna stick out further, OEM offset is 55 for the TSX, your putting on 40!, the lowest you can go i think would be 42-45 on a TSX. (not sure) but thats just playing it safe. Like what they said, too close to call but with 18x8 rims wrapped with 45 series tires with an offset of 40.........I'm sorry dude, do not mean to scare you but I definitely think ur gonna rub buddy. I'm sorry for the scary response, let me correct myself, I did not realize you have a 2 finger gap in the rear and a 3 finger gap in the front. (Your car is not that low actually) I'm gonna say probably a 1"/1.2-5" drop. Probably H and R springs. You might be able to pull it off. But your rim will definitely stick out though.

.I'm gonna say fitwise yes, 40 series will do you good, but ride wise, it's gonna be rougher, (less rubber hitting the road) It's not going to stick out that you can notice it that much but you'll be able to see it up close if you know what i mean. Some people like that look but beware of curbs....
No Prob. Would like to see some pics when your done. Just to give you an idea, here's th thread on my car, I dropped it using Eibach ProKit Spring and OEM shocks, 18x7.5 48 offset Rims wrapped with 225/40/18 tires. check it out

Go to your car and look at it.
You'll see the tires and rims sit inside the wheel well now.
Grab a tape measure.
Hold it up to the wheel and measure out 1 inch.
You'll see that it'll bring the rims and tires to about flush with
the wheel well, it may even bring them out beyond it by a
couple of mm's.
So yeah, you most likely will stick out of the wheel well, but only
by about 2 mm's or so. You'll stick out 1.1 inches further than your
current wheels, but your current wheels are inside the wheel well
by almost an inch as they sit now.
And yes, a 225/40/18 is a better tire to choose.
The sidewall will be .5 inches smaller, so there will be less cushion,
but that's the deal when you drop and put bigger rims on.
What about 215/45/18?
I'm no tire expert, hell, I'm just learning myself. But this is what I think
I've gathered so far:
xxx/xx/xx the first part is the width of the tire. So 215 is not as wide as 225,
and will maybe need to be stretched? I'm not so sure, kind of what I think though.
The second part is the sidewall height. How tall the tire is from the rim to the
tread. So the bigger the second number, the fatter the tire, the more cushion.
The last number is the inner diameter of the tire, so it'll fit on the right rim.
If I get 18's, I was planning on using the 215/45/18 because it matches the
wheel size calculator the best.
Can anyone help us out on the specifics here?
I will definitely post pics when I get the rims and tires on ( just found out the rims are backordered for 4-6 weeks).

I went with 225/40/18 tires now, because my rims are 8 inches wide. So 215 just wouldn't cut it for me personally ( gives the rim a little more protection)

I think you should be fine considering your gap u have... I'm running a 18x8 +45 with a 235/40 in the front and when I had a finger gap I didn't rub... as for the back I have a 18x9 +45 no rubbing unless I have a full car...
