The Revenge of the TSX...

A few weeks back, I was leaving a parallel parking space and touched the front of a white Focus with my rear bumper. The contact at 2 mph left a small scratch on my bumper from the nuts of the license plate of the Focus. There's a thread about it in here somewhere...

Today, while driving home, I stopped at a 3-lane T-intersection, where one lane turns left, and two lanes turn right (only). When the signal turned green, I drove from the left turning lane into the lane furthest away (wide left turn) of a two-lane road. Turns out a white Focus was on the middle, right turn-only lane, and drove up on a wide left turn at the same time (totally illegal, BTW). I didn't see it until it was right next to me, and there was no room left for the car except the bike lane. The other driver slammed on the brakes, and with tires screeching loudly smacked into the sidewalk side-ways going at least 15 mph. My passenger told me she saw a wheel hub fly out onto the sidewalk. I was stunned and very happy we never made contact. Seeing that I had nothing to do with the Focus' misfortune with the sidewalk, I went on my way. The Focus proceeded for a bout 40 ft afterwards and stopped to recover the hub and inspect for damage (saw the driver leave the car and look at it).

The Revenge of the TSX against the white Focus is now complete.

Sounds like he got what he deserved for being an idiot.

That said, a cop on the scene could quite legally have ticketed both of you. Him for making an illegal left turn (major points) and you for failing to turn into the closest lane. Rare that they'll do the latter, but I've seen it happen. If there's a serious accident of any kind, the tendency will be to write out tickets for anything and anybody even remotely involved.

Actually, the cop could not ticket for not turning into the closest lane. According to the California Driver's Handbook, if there is only one left turn lane, you are allowed to turn from that left turn lane into any lane of traffic.

Sorry, you're right. I misread the situation and thought there were two left turning lanes.

Witha left arrow and only one lane turning, you can go wherever you want.

The screws on the license plate of the Focus protrude out front. Had them not been so far out (or not there at all, like my car), the TSX would not have suffered a scratch from a 2 mph bump.

I don't think a 2 mph bump should result in damage.

Hence the term.

lol don't get me wrong, i love my tsx and if there's a scratch then i'll be real pissed. He could have unscrew that ford's screws. for example, you walking backward and you accidently hit someone from behind with soup and it spilled all over your nice shirts, who fault do you think it is? are you gonna wish him trip on the spilled soup? hahah

How about just not bumping into other cars maybe?

Hey! I never said bumping another car is to be expected!! I just said that if one does make contact, it should not leave a mark. After all, the NHTSB says 5 mph bumps should not leave substantial damage; and in the case of the TSX, that is clearly not the case.

Sheesh, some of you guys are reading in between the lines way too much.

Once again, How about just not bumping into other cars maybe?

slo, look at the rear (and even front) bumper. Its not a bumper, its a painted piece of plastic. If you want an old, fugly big bumper, buy a car made in the 70's, then you can go around bumping into all the cars you want

Are you telling me you never made contact with another car while parking? And no other car has bumped on yours while you were away either?

I know what the bumper is made of. I had it replaced once already. Nevermind why.

And no, I have no intention of bumping into other cars. Any contact is unintentional.

I should put screws on my license plate too hoping that anyone who's going to bump into my car would get a scratch. If I ever caught anyone who wasnt careful and bumped into my car, I'd give them one hell of a beating nuff said... don't want to turn this thread into a childish arguement

So you know what the bumper is made of, yet you still complain about a scratch when you hit someone else's car

I should get screws on my front and rear bumper in case slo007 comes around in my area. Also I should get blades for my wheel hubs in case he drives too close to me.

Just joking, slo.
