Replacing HID igniter

My headlight is slowly dying. I am planning to swap left and right igniters to see if it's the igniter or the ballast.

I know the front bumper has to come off to replace the ballast. Is the same true for the igniter? Can I replace it by removing just the back cover?

How old are your HID bulbs? Are they dim or turning colors?

The ignitor is connected to the control unit assay, which is screwed onto the headlight assembly. Getting the bumper off, then getting the headlight assembly off would make the job of switching ignitors a whole lot easier.

Thanks for the answer. The bumper will come off as soon as this ice age ends here in Dallas. My bulbs are relatively new, the headlight works one day and fails the next, so I know it's not the bulbs.
