Repainting?

Repainting?
I'm considering purchasing a used TSX for a fairly decent price and low mileage. However, he said due to key scratches, he had to repaint basically the whole car besides the roof. He said the scratches did not reach the metal. Does repainting the car have any adverse effects? I have heard that repainting will make the paint both less rich and also more susceptible to damage. Obviously, a lot depends on the body shop. But what are your opinions about repainted car?

If done properly you dont have to worry about it. Matter of fact, i believe that reputable paint shops can sometimes do better than the factory.

doing it properly can be pretty difficult, the pearl paint is very hard to match. I'd defiantely check it out in person to see if its blended correctly, but AFAIK a solid sealed paint job should be as good as new

Probably can't go wrong on a lifetime warranty for paint, but I'd be concerned. No way that a few rock chips and a few key scratches brings on a whole new paint job.
Me, I wouldn't buy it. My dealer tried to pass off an RSX on me with a repainted front bumper, but I am really picky about the appearance of my car, especially when it comes to paint condition.

I dunno honestly im pritty dissapointed w/ the NHB paint color, seems a little cheeply done in some spots and I feel like there was never much of a clear cloat on it period, I know my fault for buying a black car, but yeah, Ive day dreamed about repainting it like a sweet flat black, get rid of the blue flake crap and just wax it till it shines like crazy, but never gonna happen

I would ask about warranty and check edges of the panels to see if the body shop did good finish work. That is if I would be still be considering the car. Key scratches = whole new paint job. Sounds like vandalism to me

Didn't mean to scare you off the deal, just be sure you know what you are getting.
Running into a dealership with a quick buy in mind is a bad thing to do. Make sure you search a bit, and if anything, do a carfax report on the car. Even ask the dealers bodyshop to do a pull as well on the VIN.
Don't say anything to your dealer, cause if they can pull a fast one on you, they will. Sounds shitty, but let's be honest, it's the world we live in, and it happens.
I am not sure about used values, but a car with a full paint job except the roof is not worth 22K if you ask me. You could find one without paint work for about 1K or so more. I would be really concerned why the car has been painted so much. Just doesn't sound right.

Just for the record, the car with 25k miles at $22k is not the same car that was repainted. This car is still in good condition. The repainted TSX is $23000 with 10.5k miles from a private seller.

It's still too high. This car has to be considered damaged, and you should be getting prices lowered accordingly to it's loss of value.
