Remote start/alarm
Remote start/alarm
I just had the Excalibur AL-1810-EDP installed last night. Alarm/remote start also on a 6 speed. Still getting used to it, but so far so good. Once stopped, while keeping your foot on the brake, shift into neutral and engage the parking brake, take your foot OFF the brake and press lock and unlock at the same time, and you will hear a chirp. The engine will remain running until you get out and close the door or any door that is open. You can then lock it by the fob thereby arming the alarm and the car will shut off, or it will automatically shut off, lock and arm by itself after 30 seconds. If you unlock the car, the remote start is disabled, as a safety precaution. I don't really like that part, but I suppose it keeps the lawyers happy.
I can change up what any of the buttons do and the range is VERY far. The remote tells me if the car is locked/unlocked, armed/unarmed, running, starting, in range/out of range. It also has a small clock. If the alarm was activated it will vibrate and play a tone, plus it will show what part of the car was tampered with, if a door was opened, or if the glass was shattered. I guess this is just to let you know how pissed off to be BEFORE you see it, lol.
It was $350.00 installed. After doing some remote starts on on 4 vehicles all, automatics, I was not about to mess with this one. Did my 2000 Dodge Dakota, a 1996 Saturn SL2, a Nissan Pathfinder, and a 1998 Nissan Diamante. ALL of them had certain parts that made me want to kill something. This time, I let someone else get the headache.
Here are some shots of the remotes:

This is the type of alarm that is somewhat useful, as it alerts you if it goes off. (Given that you're not 100 miles away)
Japan had this a while back, and seems like USA is just chasing Japan's tail in terms of consumer electronics. Finally US of A gets something semi useful in the world of car alarms.
Where did you get this installed at? Private shop?

Yes, got installed local at Traffic Jams, in Lancaster Ohio. If you go to Excalibur of America web sight, I believe it can tell you where your local dealers and installers are located.
Also, if you DO get it installed by a recommended installer, any shop that sells it I think, and you register it on line or through the mail, your 1 year warranty is upgraded to as long as you own the vehicle.

That's a cool device. I had my windows broken into and I don't know if my alarm went off. I was told from previous posts that alarm does not go off when the windows are shattered by someone. I guess this remote would work if the car is driven off but not when the windows are broken. It would be great if it did so that I can see who's the bastard who is breaking my windows to clean my car out.
Opps. By further eating the first post, it does let you know if the windows are shattered. My bad. That would be cool because the OEM alarm won't go off when that happens.

This is even working without the OEM alarm being disrupted. The only thing I lost that I miss is window down by the key fob (still works with the key in the door lock), and the memory seat. Oh well, I can still push a button for the seats. And I only did the window down my the fob when it was hot out. Now I can just start the car and have the air on!!
