Remote Range

Recently the range of my remote has gone down tremendously. My car is 5 months old. When i bought it, the remote used to work from about 100 ft or more, but now it doesnt work from more than 30 ft. Does the batter drain so fast? Are you guys experiencing the same thing. I have 7K on my TSX.

If you hold the fob to your chin (or somewhere on your head) and or to your elbow with your hand up, it extends the range. And Ive had mine for 3 years and the batteries are fine. I think.

Its better if you use the elbow idea...and aim your arm towards the car....the fob uses your body as an extended antenna and makes the range longer.

First time I hear this was from TopGear. Tested outside my house and it extended the range to about 100 feet, or about 8 house lengths. Never heard the elbow one. Still don't know why this works, but who cares. IT WORKS!

found this on google... it's as close as something legit as i can find for this...

http://www.engineeringnews.co.za/eng...al/?show=38473

but it def works...

the one that is a big joke is the cell phone theory (i donno if you guys heard about it) some ppl claim that you can hold up your remote to your cell phone, and if you make a call to another cell phone they can hold the remote up to the car and it will unlock... but that's DEFINITELY not true, although the person who wrote the 'article' was pretty convincing and i saw ppl trying it in parking lots before... quite humerous actually...

maybe a good prank to play on someone? lol

yeah i tried it the first time after i saw that episode. it works pretty well when you're not sure if you've locked your car after you have already walked a distance away from it.

Try this little trick and see if it works.... go into the house or somewhere and click on the fob 10-20 times. Then head back outside and see if the fob still unlocks the car. I haven't tried it yet, but am about 10 clicks into the process.

The biggest problem is that at ground level, there is a lot of interference. I find that my remote has obscene range if I am elevated much higher than the car.

Example: I lived on the top floor of my dorm in college and my windows faced the lot where my car was usually parked. The lot was about 300+ feet away at ground level, but I could lock my car from the window of my dorm room. With less interference and a clear line of sight, the range of the remote is actually quite impressive.

Same here! I thought I was the only one! My car is 6 months old and about a month or so ago the range just went to crap. I have to be about 15-20 feet away now . Head level does not work. Maybe I'm too short. Is this battery that crappy??? I only use it twice a day. Seems ridiculous that it's drained already. My apartment gate remote lasted a year with some no-name brand battery!

I can get about 100ft if it's the only car in the parking lot, otherwise about 30 ft.

I remember when I used to have to open a parking gate by remote. The range was so short on it, and I hated having to wait for the gate to inch itself open. So I figured I'd try and adapt the remote-to-head idea. I put the remote against the pillar of my car, and found that I could have the gate start opening from much further away (I had to wait in the left turn lane, so I had time to stop and watch the gate). I wonder how far the actual distance was improved when I used my car.

Who knows, maybe you can go over to someone else's car, poke their car with your fob, and make it work ;-P
