Reflections in the Windshield

My interior's Ebony dashboard tends to reflect onto the windshield a great deal when the sun is low and I'm driving against the sun. It's really bad sometimes such that it my visibility is significantly impaired.

I placed a thin but small (8.5 x 11 inch) non-reflective matte black foam sheet on my dash above where the instrument panel is. It works really well, but it's still small. It's called a "foamie" at Wally-Mart and has an adhesive backing. I've cut away the paper backing only in four corners to tack the foamie onto the dash.

The downside is that although it readily bends to curves, it doesn't sit fully flush, and it would be nice if the piece were bigger. If anyone knows of places to get larger pieces of foam sheet, please advise. Perhaps Monday I'll check with an arts and crap store.

If it sat flusher, it wouldn't be all that bad or conspicuous looking.

Are you treating the dash with Armor All or some other shiny protectant? If so, you might try switching to 303 Protectant as it is not as shiny as the others. When I got my TSX, the dash was very dull and matte black (ebony interior). I use 303 on it and now it is darker and only a little bit shiny.

I hear you, I have the same issues, and sunglasses can't really solve this problem. Just a comment though, you should beware, because one of the longterm effects could be a discoloration mismatch if the mat is kept there for months or years.

I'll bet polarized lenses would work.

if you don't mind getting one of those dashboard covers, I think that would solve your problem, it may not look cool

Sorry I'm a bit late in replying to your suggestions. I haven't been receiving notifications via email.

I haven't used Armor All on the dash.

I need to find a larger piece of dull non-reflective black material. The letter-size piece that I have in place makes a tremendous difference in cutting the reflective glare. A dash cover might do it, but it might look cheesy. Has anyone tried a dash cover?

Have you tried wearing polarized sunglasses?? I'll bet that would work. It would avoid any cheesy modifications too.

I drive a 94 Legend in MINT condition...

the Car has a Carpet on the dash, and it really doesn't bother me. If i want to show it off, i Just take it off.

This is strange, I've been told that black dashes do not reflect onto the windshield as much as lighter colors. From personal experience, that seems to hold true.

I've got the ebony interior, and drive with polarized lenses all the time...it definitly does help cut down on the glare (to be honest, I don't think I"ve ever noticed the glare...will have to try driving with out the shades), but I find the biggest issue is the titanium trim on the door...it reflects off of the side window.
