Rear bumper damage question

Hello -

While I was backing up today struck to a big rock on the pavement and my rear bumper has some scratches at the bottom. I taught its only scrates at the botton and its worse, rear bumper broke about 4 inches near the driver side muffler. Its invisible as its mostly to the bottom. Any idea what would be the repair to it be? Replacing the whole rear bumper

Any idea how much it would nearly cost if its the case of replacing the whole rear bumper? Can I claim the insurance for this? I doubt if it will cover? Would greatly appreciate any of your input.

Thanks.

It's probably going to be around the $500 to $600 mark. It's acurally just a cover that goes over the bumper but once you buy the part, have it painted, and installed it's going to be up there. You can make a claim on your insurance but it's probably not worth it.

sorry to hear about that. you can try to have a body shop cement the crack, smooth it out, and repaint the area. it probably won't cost nearly as much as replacing the entire bumper.

or just get the oem body kit to cover it up.

I agree...this is the perfect excuse to get yourself the OEM body kit!

Although you should definitely verify with people that have it to see whether or not the damage will get completely covered. Based on the pic...it looks a little to high and I'm afraid it might show. I don't have the OEM body kit myself yet...so maybe someone else can comment about this....

Got an estimate for the repair work and its going to be around 800$. for the bumper cover and the gas sheild (plastic one at the bottom, its little damaged too due to the rock). Is it worth filing for the claim for collision for 300$ after deductible? any idea will my insruance premium's go up?

Thanks

I think any claim on your insurance will make your rates go up and you'll pay for it in the end and then some. I wouldn't go through insurance for $300.

that's a big rock...i'd think replacing bumper is much cheaper than $800? should be under $400 including labor...

I got 3 quotes and they are for 700 / 775 / 953 . The bumper cover itself is priced as 315, rest is all labor for painting etc. Yeah, 700 is more I think
