Rant: Got a horrible tint job

That sounds like a terrible shop.....I would never let anyone mess with anything on my car, even something as little as defroster lines. I would defintely ask for a refund and get them to pay for a new rear windshield.

Ouch bro! It sucks to be you! This is a prime example of putting good film on in the first place! Your car can't be older than 3 years so there shouldn't be a reason to replace your tint at all. First mistake....You took it to a stereo shop for window tint. They should have told you that your defroster lines won't work again before they scraped it. And no matter how brittle the film is, if they would have used a steamer to remove the film you would still have ALL of your defroster lines. But what would a stereo shop need with a steamer right?
I learned to tint in Florida (Sarasota/Venice) and almost every shop down there blasts defroster lines. I did it for 2 years, but not unless I told the customer first. I would make them agree to it first. But, when I moved up to WA where people use them all the time I had to figur out a way to save them. Now that I know how I feel like I use to violate cars at the approval of the owners
What should be done is, you should be refunded your money and they should replace the rear window!
Since you don't have a receipt you need to act fast to prove it. You need to somehow get a sample of the film from there box to prove it's the same exact film that is on your car. That's your only proof. Since it's a stereo shop and not an actual window tint shop they probably only have 1 or 2 types of film so it shouldn't be hard. If you peel the film from your window and match it up with the product they use you can prove it. My film manufacturers have QA department that can tell you which roll it was shipped with even after its been applied to the window and removed.

As JTso said above, in the end you will lose - no receipt, no proof. All they have to do is lie and it's your word against theirs.
One of the greatest benefits to anyone who frequents this site is the hard learned and invaluable experience available to all who care to listen. I myself am getting a little too old to engage in useless pissing matches (a waste of time) but I remember when I thought I knew everything and how well that served me. It was in that spirit that I added to this recent thread.

I will always be among the first to thank those of you who take the time and effort to help answer questions and share personal experiences solely for the benefit of others. A spirit and desire sadly all but missing it seems in our county today. Not to get too heavy here but I'd like to add one more thing; some of you guys make me laugh so hard (as in funny) my sides start to hurt!!! Hopefully, at times, I've returned the favor.

you got fucked seriously...your first mistake was leaving them working on your car without some kind of supervision and its even worse that you cant "espeeka spani"...you gotta go to a shop that isnt a chain and is well presented...i've been to that place theyre a mess and expensive...i get all my speaker and tint work done at a shop on nw 57th ave and about 160th street called florida sound and protection awesome tint job done by a liscenced contracted installer (they come in wearing the company shirt and alll that) and they tint to the very top on all windows and they give reciepts for every job except 5% tint jobs and windshield tint jobs...plus make sure you watch when anyone does any work on your car either over their shoulder or through the waiting room window...
