Question Radar/Laser Detector advice

Hey guys,

Just got a certified preowned Acura TSX 2005 not too long ago and loving it. The car is nice and fast.

I am looking into the option of getting a Radar/Laser Detector of some sort to avoid speeding tickets and stuff like that (I drive to Vegas and back often enough). I was wondering if you guys can give me any advice of what to get and why? I am willing to spend some money on a good latest technology detector.

Some of the brands I was looking at are Beltronics, Cobra Electronics, Escort Inc., PNI Corporation, Rocky Mountain Radar, Uniden America Corp., and Whistler. Which are the best ones?

Please give me some advice, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,

any good latest technology won't help you so much
if you want the best, it's always the Valentine 1

Valentine has been the best for some time - Valentine designed alll of the original Escort/Passports before he started his own company. Lately I understand the most recent Escort )I think it's the 8500) is competetive again.

Unless you get lucky, laser detection is typically too late to help, but on K and Ka bands a good detector can often save you a ticket.

ge tthe nesw escort 9500i.
has gps in it so you can mark false alarms..
if a cop is in the false alarm zone.. it'll still alert u!
thing overall is really cool. and i dont think you really need an arrow to know where the cop is from?
lol. it only points front and back [valentine..] then again a lot of people like it...
imo i think its way too bulky.. my 8500 first perfect right above my rearview mirror...
hits a little of the tint. so its being dummed down a little. but its still very effecient. gives me fair enough warning all the time.. + the 9500 is slimmer ;-).

I had the Valentine 1, I have the Escort 8500i.

Both will serve you well...the V1 is bulkier but has the threat direction arrows...the Escort in pro mode provides clearer threat data but no direction data, and is much more low profile.

I liked the V1 and didn't dump it because it failed me, but because I wanted a lower profile installation, such as that the Escort has allowed.

Honestly, in performance, the two have minor strengths and weaknesses versus each other but the disciples of each are very much opposed to admiting them. They really are two quite similar performing devices and your choice should be based upon your prefered interface and control scheme...not some performance numbers because figures lie and liars figure.

Well I have an escort 8500X50, and my friend has a Valentine 1..... i always pick up stuff before him and were standing right next to each other... its happened on more than one occasion, so personally... Escort 8500 X50 or Escort 9500i (mad $$$)

as for Laser...you need a jammer and i have the K40 Laser Jammer and it hasnt failed, i was goin 93 mph on I95 flew right by a cop, and it beeped telling me he hit me, by the time he tried again i was going 65.... iv been going 40in a 25 (stupid RI speed limit) and some how this guy had a laser and he hit me, but by the time he tried getting me again i was also at 25 ish.

They are both $$$ but they have already paid themselves off.... good luck on your decisions
