But they're overpriced and there are some good Bel and Escort models as well for < 1/2 that price.

Search this forum, there were a couple discussions on it around December / January time.

I have heard Bel and Escort have come a long way. My friend has a Escort Passport and it's really nice, but it doesn't have arrows. IMHO, the arrows are key. If you don't know where he's coming from then not having the arrows makes you a little paranoid. The arrows especially help to determine that the radar is coming from the other side of the freeway

I have a escort passport x50, great range and I prefer it over the valentine, becasue what i was told by members, it does its job, it does filter alot of crap, becasue my friends got a cheap cobra and the thing goes off everywhere.

Oh mines blue to also match the car scheme =) Hardwire is a must!

seems the the V1 and the passport are pretty much neck and neck at the top but the passport being a lot cheaper in price. Although i'd take either one if it were given to me.

Although somethign to be careful of though. A lot of cops are using lasers now which aren't that detectable by these things because the beam of light is so narrow. They also aim low for the license plate area in the front. So by the time your detector detects it, most of the time it's too late. Just FYI dont rely on these things 100%. Use your best judgement while driving.

Have a look at www.radarbusters.com

These guys carry a wide array of brands and models. I used to use a Cobra 9600, but same thing...it would beep when I was about 5 feet away from a cop!

I now use the Bel RX65 PRO and it beeps usually 1 mile before I even see a cop and about 3/4 of a mile if the cop is hiding over a hill in the bush...basically if it goes off higher than 3 bars or higher, I slow down.

Good luck!

definitely see the need for the arrows

but in all honesty, if the radar is going off and theres a cop around, and you'r espeeding you need to slow down, regardless if its in front, back, or the side of u.

i dunno bout other states, but in FL, FHP has NO problem with pulling osme kinda smokey and the bandit U-turns in the center medians of the highways.

belive me i know.

I would have go the arrows, but i personally seemed more assured with escorts price and range.

Search Innovision cord, its liek 10 bucks somoene amde the prongs out of a phone jack to plug into the radar, and then tap into the rear view mirror.

I have the blue Passport 8500 and I love it. It is a simple hardwire to the mirror. The thing works great and looks cool too. The red valentine is too bulky and the arrows are too much information. Why does it matter what direction it's coming from? If it goes off, shift down, hit the brakes...or (even though I know it's bad) yank on that emergency brake and no one sees the brakelights.

I totally agree with 97AcuraCL up there. The FHP loves the smokey and the bandit u-turn. But have you noticed more and more guard rails going in on all the interstates? It's getting harder and harder for those troopers in the Z28's to make the u-turn. Too many crossover crashes in this town. And traffic is getting worse every year.

Last ticket I got, they got me with the airplane. I just hope it cost them more to get that plane in the air than I paid for the fine.

I've had the V-1 since I've owned my TSX and it's paid for itself many times over with timely alerts- including laser! I don't know about the capability of other brands, but I've never gotten a ticket since installation, and I have been known to exceed the posted legal limit once or twice....

I have a Bel 980 and have not had a ticket or been pulled over (knock on wood) since I've owned it....4 years now.

I do need to attempt to get it hard wired into my new TSX. I'm very nervous to have a shop do this, as I don't really know what is entailed. I'm afraid of them scratching my interior, or voiding my warranty by messing with the wiring.

If the Bel 980 is 4 years old, the technology might be lacking to detect the newer radars...
