quick question about drive by wire

just wondering if acura came out with a "fix" for the DBW issue that a lot of people were complaining about on this forum (myself included).

Would a reflash with hondata resolve this poorly designed DBW?

The DBW system in the TSX is better than alot of others out there (just look at how horrible the one in the Civics are). I've also noticed that if you adjust how you drive, you can use the "issues" of the DBW system to your advantage. Just gotta forget how you drive an old school throttle cable and re-learn how to drive.

How should one drive differently with DBW?

There's a small delay in the response time, despite what Honda and your dealership will tell you. You gotta anticipate it. With a real throttle cable, your foot is basically on the throttle, so the only delay is in cable flex which is eliminated if you're foot stays on the pedal. With the DBW, you gotta learn the timing again since it's a little different than the cables are. You also shouldn't take your foot off the fuel when you shift, that's going to get you some jerk. Instead of going to 0% fuel when shifting, stay at about 10% fuel and you should notice much smoother shifts. Please don't do something stupid like powershift though, that's not what I mean. Just don't take your foot off the throttle like you do with a cable. DBW needs the constant input or it "freaks" when you get back on the gas.

i sorta see what youre sayin, so in between shifts, say like from 1st to second, i need to go from 40% throttle to 10% throttle, clutch in, shift, and then clutch out while still 10% on the throttle? won't that just make the rpms climb then drop rapidly making my passengers' heads bob?

No, When going from 1 to 2, throttle to 10% as you clutch in, then shift, then depending on your shift speed, throttle back up if you've dropped too low then let off clutch, if your RPMs are still above where they'll be once in gear, let off clutch as you throttle back up.
Hope that made sense to you cause it's getting late.

Yup pretty much. That cleared up alot of DBW quirks for me.

cool cool, i tried it out this morning and most of my shifts were smoother. It's gonna take some getting used to cuz ive always let off the throttle completely when shifting in the past. Thanks for the tip man.

Unfortunately it's impossible to fully master this unique and fucked up throttle system in TSX. Even after a few years of driving my 06, I still get the occasional jerky shift and it's still annoying as hell.

Funny enough, not only Honda didn't do anything to fix this on the TSX, they reproduced the exact same abortion of a system on the CIVICs and the Fit.

maybe this is why my shifting sucks, always thought it was something to do with the car. I've never had any rough shifting in any other car I've been in. It's been over a year and a half now and still not shifting smoothly all the time.

Wow, this is funny cause i just naturally learned to do this as I've owned the tsx to stop the jerkyness. When ever i shift my foot never comes off the throttle, its always hovering over it and slightly pushing it down.

I could never not lift my foot off the throttle completely...I tried, but I always took it off. The way I had this fixed is by hitting the throttle back a bit earlier when releasing the clutch...smoother. But somehow i can not hit the clutch while my foot is not totally released from the throttle.

So true

It's extremely hard to master the DBW.

...at least its not bad as 3rd gear popping out as found in RSX/Civics

yea i can't fully keep on the throttle when putting in the clutch..feels weird and and it also feels like im burning my clutch.

i need to learn how to deal with it b/c its embarrassing when i have my passengers jerking their heads back and forth due to my crappy shifting.. =/
