Questions about adding XM radio

We have a 2005 TSX and love the satellite radio so much, we want to add it to our other car. I have a couple of questions:
1. How is the sound quality of XM radio using an FM modulator?
2. Does anyone have any experience with the Delphi Skyfi 2? Crutchfield has a great promotion going on; a Skyfi2 radio plus a free Delphi car (or home) adaptor for $119.
TIA for any help.

FM sucks. You will want a aux input unit.

FM modulation sucks. The connection is not always consistent, because it's effected by other radio stations. I heard this can be a very big problem if you live in a large city with lots of radio stations and/or when you're traveling.

What type of car is this going in? It's all good if it's not honda/acura. We'll still help you

The SkyFi2 is the new version of the originial SkyFi. I've heard very good things about the originail SkyFi. The new version should be even better. Doesn't this receiver have Tivo like XM radio functions?

The car it's going in is a 2004 Nissan Quest.
Thanks for the offer to help us-it's much appreciated.
Yes, it can record programming, up to 30 minutes I believe, pause live programming, etc..

I use a hardwired kenwood FM modulator to put Sirius in my Accord and I love it, no static or drop outs. I plan to do the same with our 04 TSX this spring.

But I do hate FM mod over the air. To much static.

Moda_way used the RCA adapter for the kenwood setup in his TSX but I think he reports issues with interference on account of the hvac unit and the RCA wires. If he reads the post he can elaborate, I've got a kenwood setup lying around for free so I'm going to use it's wired FM mod first.

If you have deep pockets, you might want to consider the factory version, if it's available. It appears both XM and Sirius are available, at least for the '05's. Kinda pricing, but makes for a professional installation, and eliminates the FM modulator or AUX input issues. I did this in my Pacifica and it worked out well.

I have FM modulation and its never been a problem. I always have clear sound and never a problem in the city. However, I have sirrus not XM and will never have a car without it.

Direct FM modulation (not transmitted) can sound just fine. Yeah, it's not quite as good as direct, but the sound quality of XM sucks so much that the diff between FM modulated and direct line-level pales in comparison.

I just cancelled my XM sub a couple weeks ago after having it over 2 years because the quality has become so horrible I couldn't stand to listen to it. It USED to be good.. now they compress the hell out of it so it sounds like a 64kbps mp3 file.

I have it hooked up through FM mod. I must say, it sounds pretty good to me but don't forget, as we age we lose some high end hearing. I'm older than all of you, so maybe to my Mesozoic ears, my setup is perfectly fine.
Thank you to everybody for your input.
