Question for an Acura tech

My TSX just got a new transmission... I picked it up yesterday and on my way home I noticed it was pulling to the left really bad and I had the hold the wheel to the right to get it to go straight.

So I called them this morning to tell them they messed up my alignment and the service rep claims that nothing they did would have caused that.

He did agree to fix it, but I needed to bring my car back to them (120 miles each way). I figured hey they messed it up, I shouldn't have to take the time to take it back. So he says I can take it to a Honda dealer. So I called them and they claim that to replace the transmission they probably had to drop the front frame cross member which would make it need an alignment.

So I call the service rep back and asked him about it... then he admits this is true, but they mark it so they shouldn't have to do an alignment.

My question is... Should they have at least checked the alignment?

I was worried up-front because this was the first one they had done. Now I'm thinking what else did they do wrong.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yup, they should have checked/adjusted the alignment. Are they saying the alignment is not off? Then ask them what causes the car to pull to one side.

They seem to believe me that the alignment is off, they just don't think they caused it.

If they are willing to fix it at no cost to you....does it really matter if they admit to it? I would just have them fix it and not worry about it. Unless you have to drive the 120 miles back there.

I always seem to be ok if they want to say whatever, as long as they fix it for free because they know they messed up and it would look bad to fess up. I would prefer they admit it, but I can't get everything I want.

What kind of transmission was changed: automatic or manual?

Why did you have to change it and how many miles did it have when you changed it?

I live around Wisconsin Rapids. There are only two dealers in the state.

I guess I just wanted them to say, yes, it's our fault, what can we do to fix it. Then I would have had them bring me a loaner car and take my car to and from the dealership on a flat bed. That way it wouldn't inconvience me.

Is this too much to ask for their mistake?

Auto trans.. 4800 miles. Started making a noise while driving at around 3000 miles. I had them check it when I went in for my 5K service. They found that the transmission was shot, most likley bad from the beginning.

Asking them to flatbed a driveable car is a bit much as is having them drive out with a loaner to you.

If it's just an alignment and the local Honda dealer is can/willing to do it, then let them.

The local Honda dealer's alignment machine isn't working so I have an appointment at a local service shop today at 1:00.

Just got back from the service shop... the test drove my car and said that the alignment is definatly messed up. They can't even fix it though because their software isn't new enough.

Guess I'll be making another trip down to Madison... what a pain.

I am so tempted to call up the sales department and see what it would take to get me in a new one.

What makes you think the service will get any better if you buy a new one? I would get friendly with the Honda folks locally and have them work on your car.

That's really annoying.

And it's annoying that they wouldnt check it after disassembling the front end.

And its even more annoying that they'd deny they did it after disassembling the front end.
