Put down payment on '06 TSX

I just got back to the dealer and put a down payment on an alabaster silver/ebony, Auto, Non-navi TSX. It should be arriving second week of January.

Here is my story (may be a little word, sorry). The past few weeks I've been going back with nearby dealers, whom I hadn't plan on buying from, on quotes. I was doing this via email. I live in PA and the first quote given was $27,500 and then it went down to $27,353. I started asking other PA dealers and all they would do was match it. I decided to start asking quotes from NJ dealers as I heard some members getting good quotes from them. I was given quote of $27,051, which is $1,000 over invoice w/ destination ($25,436 + $615 = $26,051).

At this point I went back to PA dealers, through email, telling them I would drive the extra mile if I had to. I was then given a quote of $26,451 and at this point I was happy. $400 over invoice isn't bad, not the best, but not bad. This is when I contacted the local dealer who I've intended to buy from all along. I just wanted the other guys to bring the price down before I went to the local dealer.

I know the guy I'm dealing with and hang out with his brothers, so I wasn't going to play hardball and try to work him on the price any further.

$26,451 quote
$72 wheel locks (more than expected but wasn't in mood to argue)
$140 all season mats (more than expected but wasn't in mood to argue)
$449 Simoniz paint protection (car won't be garaged kept)
$107.50 tags & license
Comes to $27,219.50 minus $500 (expected trade-in on my POS) = $26,719.50
Mulitplied by 1.06 (6% PA tax) = $28,322.67 OTD

So go ahead and rip my deal apart as some of you do best.

I think that you got a great deal, especially since the new cars are just hitting the dealers' lots. Supply is still low and some dealers aren't moving much on price.

good quote. what PA dealer did you buy from? I'm from PA originally, and in northeast PA, there's only one dealer, so he didn't really compete much.

Only thing i dont understand is why did you pay 140 for all season mats when the retail price is 132, and they could be had for nearly 100?

also the wheel locks....they retail at $49, and $72? i'm not sure.

is you deal signed/sealed/delivered? because i'd cancel out on those two accessories, and just go to http://www.handa-accessories.com/

if you don't care about 50 bucks then fine, but hey, that 50 could go towards something else if you were on the fence. anyways, when do you take delivery? i'm still anxiously waiting for mine!

I'm buying from Jones Acura of Lancaster. My parents bought an '01 TL and a '02 MDX from there. So if I needed to I would've argued that point, but I understand the dealer needs to make profit, especially since I know the guy.

I actually had print outs of the accessories from the HandA website with me in my pocket. Like you said I probably should've argued the price on these. You are right I would've or actually still can save about $56 if you include ground shipping from them. I wouldn't think the floor mats would be that much different, because they are '05 floor mats selling on that website for now.

I actually didn't sign anything I just handed them a check for $500 down payment. I don't expect them to pull any shit at the last minute due to my family's history of buying from them. But if they do I'll flip on them in a second.

Good price on the car. But i think you paid too much for some of those accessories. On the handaaccessories.com website i think that the all season floormats are only $100 and the wheel locks are only $33 or something like that. Even with shipping i'd bet you'd save enough money for a steak dinner or something.

I think most of paint protection packages are like the undercoating packages dealers were peddling in the 90s - you get next to nothing from them.

Once you get a very good deal on the price of the car (and 26451 is) you have to know to turn down everything else the dealer offers you.

Yep, it looked like a smart buy until the $500 "paint protection", but at least the total price is still sane. Enjoy!
