Hood prop in the way? Solution.

I was leafing through my new Helm's manual and found something interesting that I don't think a lot of people know about.

Do you find your hood prop is in the way when working under the hood? Have you ever looked at the back left side of the hood? There's another hole for the support rod there.

Hood opens about 80* now, and the rod isn't in the way of much at all when its propped that way.

I wouldn't do this in a windy area though, but for those days you need that damn hood prop out of the way, this is so simple. No need for hood shocks.

I think every car I've had with a hood prop has that 2nd prop position.

I just switch it all out for Redline Tuning's hood shocks. Love them.

Did you get the regular Quick Lift or the Elite? I like this a lot -- a self-opening hood really seems luxury.

My 3 series friend makes fun of the Tsx for not having hydraulic lifts, but instead a steel rod.

Bastard!

I got the QuickLift and have seen the Elite. The Elite is nice, but I'm not sure it is totally worth it. MrChad has the Elite on his wife's TSX and it is very nice.

I want to do this but I think that the lifts would probably be to strong to do on a carbon fiber hood.

Actually, you'd be fine since I think they make a set for CF hoods with less initial lift. They not only lift, but the last part of the lift, they slow down too. It is a proprietary part of their design. I wanted to see if they'd make me a set for my trunk shocks, but they didn't have anything available and weren't going to have a set one-off'ed.

How difficult are they to install? I believe you are using Trunk Shocks (saw it on your sig) also? What kind and where did you get them from?
