Post about Rattles

Hey All,

I saw a post on our beloved site consisting of TSX owners complaining about persistent rattles in their cars. Is anyone having any problems regarding this?

Yes.

I have rattles in both front doors that have been looked after by the dealership, but have reappeared since then. And I don't even need to have music playing to get the rattles. I think they come from the door/lock hardware. I'll get it re-checked again next oil change.

I also have one sight rattle at the back of the car somewhere, but that is only when I'm playing music with lots of bass, then I hear a metallic rattle.

I also have the rattle, but I only hear it coming from the right front door. I also used to have a rattle/vibration on both front doors caused by the stereo, but turning down the bass solved that. I have not yet taken it in to the dealer – I am waiting until I am due for my first oil change.

Wow, just after I ordered one, this stream of rattle posts started appearing. Anybody has a TSX that doesn't have any rattles?

No rattles.

And believe me, if I had any rattles, I'd know it!

This describes my current situation exactly. I've already had two other noise problems repaired: 1)Rustling caused by the headliner rubbing against the roof of the car, just above the top of the rear window -- this appears to be a very common problem with the '03 Accords and 2)Clicking sounds caused by the dash rubbing against the front windshield -- apparently a common problem with Acuras, and easy to fix.

The second time I took my car in for the door lock rattles, the dealer seemed a little pissed and said there's nothing more they can do. So I'm looking into other options (having a local car audio expert troubleshoot it for me). I hope someone manages to get this diagnosed/fixed at the dealer and shares it with the group 'cause it's gonna cost a lot to have it looked at somewhere else. I'm also considering buying the big TSX repair manual and trying to get in there myself, but I'm not much of a DIY car repair guy and I don't wanna mess anything up.

Other than the noises, my TSX has been sweet!

Gosh, are you guys serious? All these rattling posts are scaring me s**tless. Considering how many of you are having the problem, it's not even funny anymore.

There's no need to be scared s***less. These are just little quirks that need to be taken care of (especially for the first model-year). I would argue that the same is true for the majority of the other complaints I've seen here (i.e. power seat grinding, brake squeel). I'd say I'm in the top 10% of picky people, when it comes to my car, and I'm feeling like I made a great choice in the TSX (by the way, I paid cash for it and plan to keep it for at least 6-8 years). I'll bet a lot of people wouldn't even notice these rattles -- I just went on a quest to find them all from the beginning, and get 'em ironed out so I could relax and enjoy -- and my plan is working -- I'm happier with it every day.

The "in"famous trade-in is at the shop getting fixed. It will be the end of July until it is ready. I talked with my dealer yesterday and they are willing to hold my TSX for as long as I need. They've been terrific.

I'm fine thanks, but I may see a doctor about my ankle if it doesn't get right in a week or two.

hei ppl.. i am new here. I also have problem with the rattling sound, and I went to the dealer to fix it. They juz adjust the seatbelt height and the noise is pretty much gone! I am not sure whether it will work for your case, but maybe u can give it a try. Just adjust the seat belt height to your shoulder height. Hope this help!

I wish a "fix" was that simple.

Front passenger door area rattles at highway speed over bumpy highways. Can not locate source. Not constant but occasional. Hard for me to reach across and apply pressure to see if I can stop noise. When I sit as passenger it does not do it even tough the noise has been there with a passenger who did not hear the noise when I heard it. I will get to the bottom of it one of these days. Love the car and very happy with the performance.

I think the fact that it's so common might have something to do with how quiet these cars actually are.

For example, I have two or three "rattling" noises (I put quotation marks around them because it's not technically a rattle but irritating nonetheless) one directly beside my left ear and the other in the passenger door area. Turning up the music exacerbates the problem, but turning off the music doesn't fix it.

If I open a window or something, any ambient noise all but drowns out the noises. But once my ear is tuned to their "frequency", it's hard to tune out. Overall the car feels and sounds extremely solid, so I try to focus on that when I drive instead of the rattling and it actually helps. (In my experience dealers only make rattles worse)

Talking

I thought I had a serious rattle until I realized it was the leather of the back arm rest rubbing against the seat bottom and making farting noises. 800 so far rattle free kms.

(The plethora of similies sure do compliment the posts!).
