Poor MPG~
alright guys, i've been going about 10% freeway, and 90% city driving...and i average about 20 to about 23 MPG...is this normal? or is it time for me to inflate my tires a little more?
btw..my just passed 3000 miles~

I got about the same thing in my manual going in rush hour traffic and then pretty quick on the highway. Then i got a ticket and now i get closer to 26 mpg. Stuff happens i guess, but if you drive agressively, then that will change gas milage considerably (for the worse).

I'm mostly in LA city driving, often in rush hour, and I'm averaging 18-22mpg lately. Was doing a bit better before Thanksgiving, but the Christmas shopping traffic I go through every day now is killing my mileage.
Wish I had more opportunities for freeway driving. Usually that's mostly a weekend thing for me, and lately I've been away weekends.
i just recently hit 1400 miles, and i was getting between 16-19 mpg, with 20 percent freeway. i thought that it was horrible, then, i went out of town, and finally received 23 mpg, that's my highest. i'm so jealous when i see some of you guys with easily 20 some mpg. i drive too hard i guess

i had 850 miles on mine and averaged 17 mpg to that point. It was so frustrating seeing that needle inch to the 3/4 level after only driving 50 miles!!!!! Then I went on a road trip and now have 1100 miles. The needle's at the 1/4 level and I've driven 250 miles on this tank of gas so far. I'm curious to see how fast the remainder will last in city driving.
Can't believe how much fuel this car burns though...I know it's bound to improve over time, but wow, at $2.35 a gallon for 93 octane, it's an expensive break-in period. In one month (since I've owned the car) I've spent $115 on gas for only 1000 miles!!

And here is another thread where members are posting up MPG data charts:

Also if you have Navi the Advanced Trip computer also tells you how long the engine was running in between refills. I do 95% City and get about 20-22MPG with about 8-10 hours driving time per tank.
I am almost at 4000 miles and just recently noticed an improvement in mpg and throttle response.
I drive about 50/50 (city/hwy) and get between 24-28 mpg. For hwy only, I get about 31-34 mpg. This is better than the "POS" 2.0L 4cyl GTI I previously owned.
One thing I noticed, however, is that the hwy mpg is the same whether I am going 65 (rpm ~2200) or 85 (rpm ~3000), according to the mpg meter. This seems to be a by-product of the low coefficient of drag (CD = 0.26?; correct me if I'm wrong).

i drive pretty smooth, trying to mock an automatic transmission. i drive fast usually. but the odd time i really make an effort to drive fueleffientially and it shows barely, so i dont bother anymore. i never coast in nuetral, always in gear, upshift, downshift, double clutch when going into 1ist from 2nd. i rev the car up several times a day, but i usually get into a good speed and leave it in 6th.
i can drive hard, or normal and barely notice the difference, so i just have fun and pay for the gas
TSX Cman

Just passed 4,400 miles and my last tank of gas lasted about 320 miles at almost exactly 26 mpg- just a little better in fact...my driving is about 50/50 freeway/in town....actually the tank would have gone a lot further, but I filled at 320 miles, just to make sure noobs don't think seventeen and a half gallons only go 320 miles in the TSX- sure, the mileage isn't stellar, but as a trade off for everything else I like about this car, it's acceptable.

I spent close to 45 minutes going about 3 miles the other day. A bit extreme even for here due to Christmas shopping traffic (usually it would take me 20-25 minutes in rush hour), but that's what many of us are talking about when we say "city driving." It often means "crawling along at 5-15 mph in between stops..."
While I'll concede that there are no major freeways in your area, it also doesn't really qualify as city driving either. Gorgeous place though.

My tyres are at 32psi, and I drive 90% city driving and 10% on a freeway about 4 miles long with a 50mph limit. I get 24mpg. The secret is in avoiding hard acceleration in 1st gear. Instead, use less than 1/4 throttle and change into 2nd at 3000rpm, then in 2nd, you can use 1/2 throttle if you want the acceleration. The 1st gear ratio is short, so even if you use more throttle, you'll just get "harder" acceleration, but not much speed in the end. This is what I do. From traffic lights, the 2.2L camry autos leave me, but when I shift into 2nd, I catch up again.
I tried 100% highway driving before with a 70mph limit, got 33mpg. My car now has 1300 miles on it.
