Pollen Filter Question

So I go to the dealer to pick up some washers, and some honda oil filters for a my friends (We just really like to honda filters), anyway I figure while I'm there I'll pick up the pollen filter.

Parts Guy: We don't have any in stock but I can order some and they'll be here Friday
Me: Sure that sounds alright how much are they,(thinking to my self at most about $12)

How wrong was I

Parts Guy : $67.21

Me: Uh nevermind, I'll order it later.

So is that like normal price, I was Ass -u -me -ing it would be like the regular air filter. I hope the one they give you is golden, cures cancer, and gives blowjobs twice a day for the next 30,000 miles.

Any other place where I can find them cheaper?

By the way, I've said this before but I Hate Esserman Acura. The Smug bastards, if it wasn't that Rick Case is forever away I would never go there. I hope John J. Esserman reads this "You sir suck, you suck with all the effort and enthusiasm as a 2 dollar Tijuana hooker. If there was a sucking contest you would win the gold and literally blow away the competition. I feel nothing but remorse for the golf balls and hose you use to practice your sucking, and pray for the day when your will to suck has subsided and said items can find peace."

::End Transmission::

Online they're like $66, so he isn't messing with you. Gotta remember this is a microfiber cabin filter... they aren't cheap.

Damn, oh well I guess I'll have to pony up then. $67 dollars for a filter, isn't that one of the seven signs that the dark lord is coming. I guess I'm on my way back to Esserman the land where all happiness is stolen bottled and sold for a low low price of 1 soul, a land where all sunshine and glee is locked away and the salesmen's eyes steal away the very fibre of your being with every passing second.

Another reason I hate esserman, did anyone notice the list price for the filter $43.34. Esserman's price $67.21. Does anyone else see a problem with that. I hate them good lord do I hate them. I rue the day John J. Esserman was conceived, if there is any good in this world god would hath smoteth them years ago. Anyway back to the topic at hand does anyone know if the filter in the TSX is the same as the one in the TL and Accord, because according to cabinairfilters.net they are but they all have different part numbers and different costs. I have a friend at Brahman Honda so if they are the same he told me his price was like 12 bucks for the Accord one.

Again thanks for you help guys.

Hmmmm. I'm not sure if the pollen filter is the same..... You may want to pull yours out and compare it with the pick in cabinairfilters.net. Or show it to your Honda friend. If you can get the filter for $12 without shipping and waiting, go for it.......I wonder if any other brands such as Fram make the filter yet?????

Make sure you have the right partnumber. There are two showing that could be the same:

80292-SEC-A01
17315-SDA-A02

Make sure you don't need two of them. My RSX did. they were about 30 each.

Well, I just figured out the difference between these two part numbers... the top one is the filter AND the unit it sits in, hence the extra cost. The other number is just the filter.

Problem solved, order the cheaper piece if you haven't planned on doing that already.

Actually, the opposite. I ordered the top part number and got the filter and the plastic holder it sits in.

moda_way,

I know it's been a while since you posted to this thread, but what did you end up doing with the dust filter (part # 17315-SDA-A02) you ordered? I ordered the same part but I don't think it's what I really wanted, which I think was instead a cabin filter. How often does 17315-SDA-A02 need to be replaced? I might just take the 20% hit and return it.

Thanks

The one from cabinairfilters.net is not an exact duplicate of the acura one. It's an aftermarket filter that is made in the same dimensions. I'd say the Acura one is better made as it has reinforcement ribs along the filter material.

Ordered replacement pollen filter from www.fleetfilter.com (the website says its backordered right now). What I received was a Napa Gold filter that fits perfectly in the filter tray behind the glove box. The OEM filter has an extra ridge in the middle and the filter material feels just a bit more stiff than the Napa. The Napa feels to be made of the same material.

The replacement took all of maybe 10 minutes. Here is what my old filter looked like after 20K miles.

I just changed my cabin air filter today with a purolator filter for 14 bucks from Discount Auto Zone. The original that I pulled out of the car doesnt seem to have anything significantly great about it to cost upwards of 40 bucks. Just another filter or so it seems.

There are Magnolia trees planted in front of every house on our street. Every time I see dry leaves on my windshield I try to pick them out with care.

I would highly recommend doing this filter replacement at 20K miles and not waiting till 30K. Its a very straightforward process that will take all of 10 min. and replacement filters can be had for approx. $10 - $15 (a fraction of what you would pay Acura).

Because it is a HEPA filter.

I would suggest changing it out every 12 months. You can get the Wix/Napa filter delivered to your door for +/- $14.00 and it takes <15 minutes to replace it. Aside from the clean air issue your ventilation system will be less stressed and you can run the fan on a lower setting. In the end it just makes to much sense.

Please excuse the slam here, but that's not very smart on so many levels I don't think I even have to list them.

In Australia, the dealer wanted US$77 to replace the cabin filter, where $59 was for the filter. So the remaining $18 should be for labor.

at most 10 minutes for a noob, so at most 5 minutes for a mechanic. so $18 for 5 minutes, that's about $216/hr.

So, back in post #24 I had snapped a few photos of my OEM pollen filter after 20K miles. Its been another 10K miles, I'm now at 30,400 so it was time to change my pollen filter again, as I resolved to only go 10K mi. between changes. Boy was I glad that I did. Here are a couple of a pics of the Napa filter after just 10K mi.

The old and new, side by side...

..and the old Napa filter. Hard to see in this pic the amount of crud stuck deep down in the folds of the filter

Based on what I've seen with mine, I highly recommend changing your pollen filter every 10K miles.
