plastic arm in the glove compartment

Ok, this is kinda embarrassing.

Last Sunday, after driving back from Atlanta, I drove to Tims Ford Lake (it was on the way) to go hiking ...

I needed something from my glove box so I opened it and stupidly let it drop like I always do. Because I had the new car warranty booklets in there plus some other stuff, it was a heavy drop and broke off the hook of the arm. I had only the arm to hold the glove box because I was going to change the cabin filter very soon and was too lazy to put in the two stoppers at either side.

Anyway, I called Acura today and the parts guy said what I described sounded like a 'stopper arm', however, he says there are TWO of them and they sell for $2.30 each. I only saw one so that can't be right. Anyone know what this is called?

Nevermind. The parts guy at Gary Force Acura faxed me a parts drawing and it looks like what they call a "Dampner", which comes with a cylinder housing where the plastic arm contracts into. It costs $12.65 and would have to be ordered in as they don't carry them in their inventory.

I guess it's not every day that this part get broken off

Let that be a lesson to others.

The "Dampner" allows the glove box to open slowly. The stoppers keep the door from dropping all the way open. It stops it so it's level when open. I guess lesson learned here.

I just noticed that mine is broken as well. I do not know if I did it or the guy that serviced my car did it. I went to a regular quick lube place for and oil change, and the guy insisted on changing the cabin filter. I decided to change it my self and upon going to do so found the hook to be broken. Does anyone know where I could order this or have instructions on replacing it? I checked the acura online and was unable to find it.

I broke my dampener when i removed it to replace the cabin filter... It bothers me that it is broken even though it really doesn't affect anything. So this means i will be changing it soon! If anyone happens to find any info on how to get to it, please post! I probably won't do it until the Ohio decides to turn the snow machine off and warm up.

There aren't really any sites or stores that carry this for any cheaper than 8$ and change. Shipping is about 12$ across the board for ground. I think the best option is to go to the dealership and order one, they do not carry the damper on hand but you can ask them to order it for you. There is no shipping charge as long as you pay in advance at the dealer. It is about 15$. I'm gonna go with this option since there are two dealers within 10-15 mins of me. Also going to wait until this horrible winter is over.

Must be a common problem as I also broke mine on my 2004... very easy to do if you are not careful!

Mine's been broken for a while. Can someone give us the part number for the dampener? It'd make it a lot easier to describe and order @ the dealer.
Thanks.

Mine broke with the same scenario. Anyone have a writeup to fix it? I already sourced the broken arm, just need some instructions and time to do it.

So I still haven't fixed mine yet. Does anyone have a DIY writeup or pointers? Or is it totally very straight forward to do?

i got a little creative with 3 zip ties and managed to connect them so it works. make a small loop around the shaft (small enough it wont fall off) and 1 thru the glove box shaft where the hook goes, then the final one connecting the 2 loops. wa-la and no need to order the part.

Haha I did this the first time I changed the air cabin filter in mine. The video that I was watching didn't mention it and I snapped it right off.

I think it's only two screws that hold the upper part of the arm in place. You bring the latch toward you to lock it in place to the glove box.

Quick search found:

#21, 77530-SEC-A01

http://parts.sonsacura.com/showAssem...chString=glove

12 bucks plus shipping (which is usually awful...just have your local dealer order it and you're often ahead).

Have you tried opening it while pressing on the lock cylinder? Sounds stupid, I know. But when I first bought my '06 a couple months ago, I was sure it was broken cause no matter how much I tugged, it wouldn't open - and I didn't want to pull too hard & break it.

After playing with it a bit, I realized it wouldn't work if just pulled like a typical cantilevered handle. I have to put my thumb on the lock cylinder and kind of brace it as I pull on the handle. Difficult to describe the motion - it's almost like you're pushing in on the lock cylinder with your thumb while simultaneously pulling on the handle.

I've gotten used to it now but still kind of silly. Doing some reading, I thought I found others complaining of this, so maybe just a bad design.

The video was made by me I never had any problem with mine. But a few people told me it might break or snap. I had the car for about 6 years never snapped on me.

thank you for the suggestions but it did not work. I think over the years of having to pull hard on the handle to get the glove box opened I finally broke it. My friend is a acura service manager and he said he would look at it the next time I was in the area.
