Pics of Mazda 6 Rust Problem

Would you rather have rust or rattles? I'd rather have neither, but this would seriously piss me off beyond belief. How does Mazda intend to fix this? Replace all the doors? These cars are ruined.

I didn't have any of it on my old M6. I believe it doesn't happen to all the M6.

I'm now extra glad I chose the TSX over the MZ6. Even if I had bought a MZ6 without rust problems, I shudder to think of the resale impact this will have!

I can see them.

My friend's neighbor has a silver Mazda6. It's got an aftermarket body kit and no spoiler. It looks very smooth.

Reminds me of some problems Honda had in the 70s, they are pretty much fixed now but I still hear folks talk about Honda products and corrosion, it obviously takes a long time to move past quality issues such as this. If this is a Mazda wide quality issue, they are in for some tough times.....sell! sell! sell!

My guess is that they won't fix them. They probably have a rust perforation warranty but they won't touch surface rust. If I owned one of them I would pick up some extra strength rust inhibitor from Canadian Tire / whoever and treat it immediately and re-apply every 30 days.

I work at a machine shop where our biggest customer will reject even the lightest surface rust so we use rust inhibitors regularly. They work quite well.

BTW, if anyone has any ideas for custom machined parts for their TSX, let me know.

If you can't see the pics, just click the link below them.

See more info about the rust issue at this website.

Well my Civic doesn't rust like that Mazda, but rust is starting to appear where some paint has been chipped off (since it was coated so thinly!) due to parking lots/shopping carts casualties. Honda's may not be rusting, but they need to do something about the paint.

Agree. My dad's '03 TL-S bought in '02 has 2 rust spots on the chipped off on the hood already. Very bad IMO. Yet since the car was always parked outdoor, the touch up paint doesn't really match well.

My 2001 Honda CR-V is showing some signs of rust on the paint and underneath. My 1992 Accord is already rusted pretty bad that I can't open the drivers side door from outside.

Wow. This is absolutely terrible, and I would not like to be in those M6 owners' shoes right now. It must affect the value of their car quite importantly.
