Picking up the car from the dealer

Hi guys...i was wondering..can the dealer make you pick it up by a certain date? or on a certain date?

I am supposed to pick up my car this wednesday. However...i have heard that there is a big storm coming our way (in Toronto)...and don't want to drive it off that day.,..and i work during the day..

anyways..it would be more convenient for me to pick it up on Friday or the weekend.

Their excuse was it is the end of the month and since the APR program is changing (because it is only from August 1 to Aug 31).. that .cars sold during the month of August must be off the lot.

anybody heard about this? Is this true? Can i pick it up on Friday instead?

I only bought the car last week. However... i have not paid yet...just the $1000 deposit.

what do you guys think? can they make me pick it up? what's the worse that could happen? they take back the car? i haven't even paid for it yet.

i would imagine its up to the dealer to determine when he wants you to pick it up....i think it is rather strange that they wouldnt let you leave if for a few days. If its that big of a deal I would talk to them again.

I'm pretty sure you get to pick it up whenever you want. allqt, what dealership you getting yours from? I'm (finally) getting mine on Saturday (maybe Friday if they are ready earlier) from Acura in Markham.

Erin Mills dealership...it's inconvenient for me to pick it up until the weekend b/c i don't even live near the dealership. It would be better for me to pick it up during the weekend when i have time to go over the car and make sure everything is okay before i sign.

I have given them payment of the car nor details for insurance yet. I will do that the day i am ready to pick up the car and the last thing i want to do is pick up the car and drive home during a large thunderstorm which are the remnants of Hurricane Katrina..

If there was an APR program expiring on the 31st, then you would have to at least sign/pay by the 31st to qualify. A good dealer would probably let you sign and then pick it up after the storm passes. What is the current APR program?

I do believe the APR Program that allqt is referring to is the 2.9% from Honda Finance.

allqt, I just talked with my dealer. They told me that since I signed the offer within the promo period, they will still honour the 2.9% if I pick it up after the period is over. I can't say for sure if this is policy (doesn't sound like it), so it would be best just to confirm with your own dealership first.

What a BS from the dealer! a good dealer/salesman should able to work out something. The rate should be locked once you paid the deposit.

Yeah I bought mine a month ago and they asked me when was it convient for me to come back and pick up my car. It didn't matter to them , they put her aside and had her nice and shiny and OEM body kit installed and ready to go for the date I requested.

if there are scratches on the car...there is no way i'll pick up the car..

i'll definitely be looking hard over the car for scratches and any defects before i take the car off the lot.

no doubt about that.

If you read the small print of any incentives that the dealership offers, it will almost always state that "You must take retail delivery of the vehicle by xx/xx." You may want to hold off on it though. I don't know if it applies to all dealerships or not, but I just got an email from a dealership in KY saying that they're going to have 0.0% APR starting September 1. That could also be why they are now letting you sign now and take the 2.9%. Even though most of that money is going to Honda Finance, the dealership still gets a cut so they would be making more money off of you @ the 2.9% rather than giving you the 0.0%. Something worth checking into. Just my
