permanent sharpie pens

alright i guess a bunch of cars got attacked with permanent markers this halloween at the place i went to. anyway my car has writing on it from a sharpie. I'm pissed, and I'm not sure how to take it off. My friend said rubbing alcohol but I was thinking that it would ruin the paint. I dont know though any advice?

Man, that sucks...

You can e-mail them to see if they have a way to remove without alcohol..

rubbing alcohol will not ruin your paint, its an excellent cleaner. it will however remove the wax off the area, so you'll need to rewax it

Rubbing alcohol should not harm the paint, although I make no such guarantee. However, it will remove any wax. I have to wonder if rubbing alcohol from a drug store, with the oils in the solution, is better than denatured alcohol from a hardware store without added ingredients.

If alcohol is not 100 percent effective, you could try some fine polishing compound (do not use rubbing compound -- it is too abrasive). In any case, use no more polishing compound, and pressure, than is necessary.

Another option would be to check with a body shop. Specific, and strong, cleaners are made for cleaning cars before painting. They will not harm existing paint, providing the correct cleaner is selected. Different cleaners are made for different types of finishes. They are generally available only through automotive paint stores that sell to automotive paint shops.

I hope your car is not white.

I use 99% isopropyl alcohol all the time to clean up permanent marker markings. It will come right off. I'm sure it will remove wax off your car as well.

There was a recent post about sharpie ink on a white car on autopia: http://autopia.org/forums/showthread...hlight=sharpie. Apparently Sharpie recommended and ink remover product, and there's a link to it in that thread.

At least you have CG instead of PWP, so if you only remove 95% or 99% of the marker, it probably won't be visible at all. On the other hand, CG will make it tougher to tell if you've gotten all of it off.

Good luck,
John
