Performing 3rd brake light mod.

Hi guys, I ordered a Kahtec 3rd brake light blinker plus ( safety mod ! ) which I will install once I receive it. I was wondering if I can change the 3rd brake light to an LED while doing this mod, wondering if it will be brighter than stock 7440 bulb?

Thanks,

I wouldn't recommend a LED because the reflector in the 3rd brake light is meant for a regular bulb unless you get an LED that does extremely well is spreading its focus throughout the unit otherwise you get one very bright bulb instead of a red bar from the whole reflector being used up..that was the case in my car..I had an extra LED bulb leftover and put it in to see what it would look like and the bulb was bright but it just looked like a dot with a very faint red background from the reflector..I'd suggest an led with 10+ bulbs facing in all directions..haha

Thanks for the feedback. So basically get the led bulb that has many leds on the sides and not the top part only?

I know its a general type of question, but would you think the LED 7440 would make the light brighter?

In all honestly I wouldn't bother buying the LED because I think with the regular incandescent bulb it's bright enough..when I see other TSX rolling by and braking during broad daylight it seems as if the brake light is pretty bright so it's your choice

the only thing I would recommend doing if you do LED is this..

I am unsure now as to which type 7440 LED bulb will fit on the 3rd stop light on our tsx. Some look longer than others.

I saw one on ebay, it was a 350Z ultra bright for 39.99 a pair but unsure it will work?

Is there any specifics for fitment that I should be looking for?

I just took the OEM 3rd brake lighting housing out, and put in an LED bar from a donor vehicle. Fits right in. Interior part of the light is covered with matching interior fabric.

BTW I didn't use the tsx club's DIY. He used the original housing, I ripped the original housing out.

The replacement bulb part # is 333-03-SL4003.

Has any one tried the Sylvania bulbs as replacements ??

It is a LED CHMSL from a Mercury Milan rear spoiler. Fits perfectly into the recessed space after you remove the OEM CHMSL.

Thanks. I bought 2 lengths of white LEDs from autozone and stuck both strips inside the housing. Will post pics later.
