I live in Virginia and my '06 TSX was flooded during the recent hurricane. The insurance company has totaled the car; I am looking at buying it back even though it will be a salvage title with flood damage. The HUD is showing emission system failure, brake system failure, and transmission failure; also others that I do not remember right off the top of my head. I am taking it to my local Acura dealer to get a quote to fix it. I was wondering where the PCM is located so I can look to see if it is damaged. Any advice on where to find it would be greatly appreciated; Thanks.

My suggestion - run, don't walk away from any flooded vehicle. You will have a salvage title, a vehicle with ongoing electrical problems, and no resale value. Or, buy it back and part it out.

 

Street277 thanks for the link. Nbtx I know I should just salvage it or part it out, but the problem is I do not have the room to part it out at my apartment complex as the only parking spots are for our cars, and no guest parking. And with what the insurance agency is going to give me for the car I can’t afford a car in the same tier as the TSX. If I salvage it I'm removing my aftermarket front bumper and carbon fiber hood. And putting my damaged stock bumper back on for the junk yard. I’m taking it to an Acura dealer Friday to see if they can diagnose the problem.

 

Was there water in the cabin, and if so how high? It sounds like you can drive it - right?

 

It was about 2 inches high, I have pictures but I haven't been a member long enough to post them. The car does not even start, it tried to turn over a couple of times, but it would immediately die.

Based on your pictures it does not look like the water got high enough for it to contact the ECU directly. That is not to say that there is not damage to other components that were immersed in water.

Did you try and drive/start it while it still had water in it? That may have done more damage that the water. That being said water, especially salt water, is horrible for electronics. I would suggest you take the money that insurance is going to give you and find something else.

Even if replacing the ecu fixes all your faults and it works perfectly now, down the line you are going to have electrical and mechanical issues that you will be chasing forever.

Take the money and run.

 

I had to total the car. The local dealer said I needed to replace the engine and that the computer system got fried.

my car is in the same boat been through a flood. Did you salvage it or part it out? need some insight on what u did .. car is having the same exact issues.

 

Someone will have to tear down the car to check to see if the ECU and wires are water logged.

if water came up to water log the ecu, that means ALL of your carpet is wet anyway... that needs to be taken out of the car and DRIED.
you're looking at removing the WHOLE interior to dry out the car.
Pull the seats out then remove the rails....then remove carpet to dry.
then check ECU


if you cant do any of this, that's what INSURANCE is for....
You let them handle it and there will only be two options, fix it or total it. which is a easier decision to make if someone makes it for you

 

Yea I will be removing the ECU today. Before the car went to the tow yard it started. Now it doesn't (got it back)

 

check simple things first, like the battery connections......

you dont want to start tearing the car apart if it's just a disconnected battery.
